It doesn't create less drama, or positively effect a relationship. Instead, it can only create an issue of mistrust, should the lie be figured out. Since tons of people in the US have a Facebook Account, it would have absolutely no impact on the relationship one way or the other. So, why lie about it?

If this is an exclusive relationship, as Jimmy "Don't call me Ike Turner" Johnson states, the goal should be to build on the relationship. Issues at the start, only become more pronounced over time. She needs to learn to be honest and I would say it's not worth your friend's time to develop that trait in her. I also think that her ability to learn that trait will come through failing in relationships.

I have also had former girlfriends lie about hanging out/hooking up with me on facebook hoping for my current girlfriend to see that shit and flip out.

So yeah maybe she just doesn't want to deal with all the drama that comes with having your love life on display for 300 plus friends and more importantly ex'es to see. Or maybe she isn't that serious about the dude and is cheating on him. The fact that people are even thinking about this is evidence enough of the drama this shit causes.
