It seems like the GOT people picked Arya to kill the Night King and not George RR Martin.

"While the show creators were mum on Arya’s mystical lineage, they knew for a total of three years that she would be the one to end the long night. “We hoped to kind of avoid the expected, and Jon Snow has always been the hero, the one who’s been the savior,” co-showrunner David Benioff explained in the post-show extras. “But it just didn’t seem right to us for this moment.” "

So either Martin said Snow was the one who kills the Night King and the creators of the show just wanted to do something different, or Martin said he doesn't know yet and the show creators just decided it would be Arya.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the book.

The Night King in the show doesn't actually appear in the books. This version of the Night King was entirely created by the showrunners and so it makes sense that Martin had nothing to do with who kills him.

In hindsight, it explains why the NK was dispatched now and not later as Martin never intended for the NK to feature prominently in his story as the conflict was always about the Iron Throne. That is also probably why the mystery and lore behind the NK is so undeveloped as the showrunners don't quite have Martin's creativity so they ended up not knowing what to do with the NK.

I thought the same thing.

Maybe his purpose was to bring everyone together for the kill to even happen? But then, if he fulfilled his purpose, why is he still alive?

Again the NK is not in the books as imagined here so Jon Snow's purpose is not tied to the NK but to his identity as Aegon most likely. In the end, you could almost treat the whole NK story as filler the showrunners created to fill up airtime.

I don't think you can call it filler as it started with the show Day 1 and just ended 8 years later. I think they just didn't put enough effort into the conclusion of the story. I liked the part where NK smirked after being given a heavy dose of dragon fire but he should have been a harder kill and there should have been some epic sword fighting and shit. How did Arya know he need be stabbed where the dragon glass was inserted with Valerian steel? We could assume Bran told her even if he didn't have a clue if fire would destroy him. Seems like a stretch to believe he'd know of a smaller detail that he would also have no history about to draw on.

"Depending on the camera angle and the lighting of the shot, it could have been almost any number of riders, well not 100,000, but any realistic number. I got the impression they were trying to make it look like the Dothraki made up the largest part of Dany's/Jon's armies. Which would mean whatever the number was before the battle, it's less than half that now. "

It's not my reading comprehension that sucks, it's your ability to formulate a coherent thought. the above can be taken any number of ways, instead of clarifying you went for the gotcha moment, not me.

It was obvious I was talking about the combined army, you are just to dim to grasp that obvious fact.

You actually thought I said half the Dothraki survived? LOL I said "So 40,000, mostly dead Dothraki, I doubt 5% survived". But you didn't understand that super confusing statement? You hate getting called on your mistakes and will use any BS excuse to deflect.

The Night King went down too easy.

I don't know that they had this all mapped out day 1. Remember the NK in the books was a former Commander of the Night's Watch so the talk of him in Season 1 was most likely due to the connection with the books which had him as more of a ghost story or cautionary tale.

Filler may be a bit harsh so perhaps MacGuffin is a better title if we understand that term to mean "a motivating element in a story that is used to drive the plot. It serves no further purpose. It won't pop up again later, it won't explain the ending, it won't do anything except possibly distract you while you try to figure out its significance."

In the end, the NK storyline proved to be a huge distraction from the ultimate purpose ie the Game for the Iron Throne.

The hound taught Arya how to stab a man in the heart by going between the ribs.

Ahhh, just lucky the dragon glass was in that spot I guess.

Hound with another save of Arya last episode, even overcoming his fear of fire to do it. I'm thinking she owes him big and I'm thinking that's why he survives it all.

Couldn't Jon Snow still be the prince that was promised without having to have killed the NK? Basing that off of the NK being discussed above not being prominent in the books and people wondering why he was brought back from the dead.

They've done such a build up of his character. I think he still has a huge role to play in the story unfolding.

Yes he can. Seems that prophecy is probably more about who ends up on Iron Throne and not about who defeats the NK.

The more I think about it the heroes of this saga are the Starks. Not the Lannister’s, not the targaryans etc but the Starks. Jon isn’t a stark though.......i think that is why bran will be the ruler. Where Arya role was to Assasinate the nk jon was brought back to life to deal with Dany

What are the chances Dany sends for the second sons? They’re holding down dragons bay and Dany needs reinforcements.

Also if Tyrion betrays Dany I think it’ll be for Jon not Cersei and I think Varys and Sansa will be his co-conspirators without Jon’s knowledge or approval.

But he is a stark. It's a stretch to take that away from him. Bloodline vs last name.

The Vale should have had 10-15k men, and now way were there that many vale soldiers there either. Dany's remaining army will be whatever D & D want it to be to take on Cersei. I guess they can explain this by saying a small part of the Dothraki and Vale soldiers were left at Dragonstone or the Eerie?

Knights of the Vale went North to help Jon/Sansa... only places they would be is Winterfell or The Vale, unless there was some offscreen meeting of Dany with Lords of the Vale where they agreed to keep troops in reserve on Dragonstone.

That is some good thinking there. Her army is destroyed. So maybe see Dario again? Maybe more so when she gets rid of Tyrion and Varys Dario will be her most trusted person

And even with the Tyrion betrayal you might be right. They see in a ruler how jon conducts himself compared to Dany. If I were a citizen I would rather be ruled by Jon over Dany she is a mental midget

Dany def showing a shitty side to her as time goes on. Wonder when people will start taking notice that are so loyal to her.

It's like, everything is great and I'm the most amazing ruler, but do what I say or die.

Jon is 100% more about the people, but his actions back that up more than her "breaking chains". Feel like that's all she's really done is free slaves and provide an army to support the war against NK.
