Unconfirm source: Cleveland may be frontrunners and may be talking to Garza about an extension, seen on Twitter.

Interesting Bo sox or Rangers.

Got me thinking Middlebrooks or Olt and a arm from either.

Might become a shocker where they deal with Boston with Theo's knowledge of that system.

Meh, I don't want either of those guys. At this point, the Cubs have some depth at position players. If they were able to land a catcher or centerfielder, I'd be fine with that. Otherwise, let's start stockpiling pitchers.

if cleveland would be able to strike an extension with him, then that would be the best deal to make cause they could get the most in return for a non rental player.

Cleveland's farm system has some nice pieces.

Torontos does not excite us as much.

Agreed give me arms.

We have Bryant and Baez to compete at 3rd base.

Or Bryant and Castro with Baez at SS.

Boston has some big power arms that would be nice to add.

Barnes, Owens and Raunado

We should just keep Garza. Pitching wins. And baseball is a weird sport where a team doesn't need a stacked lineup to win. We could get hot at the right time and ride the wave. But trading every damn capable player we have is just a waste.

I just don't think they think Garza is going to be an impact player in 2-3 years at 32 with his health history.

They are going to keep the capable players who have youth and health on their side like Shark, Castro, Wood and Rizzo.

Just curious, don't take this the wrong way -- Were you mad when the Cubs traded with the Pirates and landed Aramis Ramirez?

Trading with a team far out of contention, within your division, is one thing.

Trading a stud pitcher to the divisions's best team (which is young and will be contending for the foreseeable future) is quite another. That really shouldn't need to be explained.

Agreed. Olt would be a real nice prospect, but at a position we have some other options, it is not the nest way to go.

If they made that trade, i would be OK with it, because it would mean getting a top prospect, which is no guarantee in a deal. But all things being equal, we'd be better getting a top prospect at a different position.

Got more to do with what teams are willing to let go. Middlebrooks and Olt make sence to both teams as they are both at low value right now. But they could bounce back.

On Theo resigning Garza.

That is not his call that is what the Ricketts are willing to pay. It has already been put out that Garza wants more per year (not in amount of years) then the Ricketts are willing to spend.

We might be talking 16-18 mil range here on avg. Not sure if he is worth Ace cash.

P.S: This could be a tactic by the Garza camp to force a trade. Out price what the Ricketts are willing to spend so he goes into F/A with no strings attached to the team he finishes with.

He sticks Cubs get a pick. Team loses one. He gets traded the team he gets traded to gets nothing when Garza declares.

So in other words it is in Garza's best interest to be traded out unless the Cubs offer more then his market value. (which is around 80 mil)

Do we really need another 3rd basemen?

I thought Bryant was going to he a quick to the majors guy and we still need to find a place for Baez.

SS after Castro flamesouts. Baez could also play 2nd or a corner OF spot IMO if need be.

And many think Bryant won't be able to stick at 3B. The Cubs are certainly going to try him there first because he is more valuable if he can handle the position, but Bryant being a corner OF isn't an unlikely outcome.

Ryan Braun is one comp I heard over the weekend in regards of moving from 3B to corner OF

Bryant is supposedly more atheltic and should be a good RF from what I read since he has a plus arm. But yeah the move is far from unheard of. Basically the Cubs at this point are just at the point they need to acquire the most bats possible and then sort out where they play once they have them.
