I think Drabek's stuff is what interests me and the ability to buy low on him is why I stated he isn't a centerpiece. I see him as a piece similar to Arrieta to be honest. But the fact that TO is trying to gather pieces for now might be why they would be willing to throw him in.
Getting one of those guys (Sanchez or Gose) as a center piece with two other lower level prospects would be a solid get. All indications are the Cubs are using the Greinke deal last year as a model for what they want. I am just not sold yet that other teams are willing to meet that price given all the chatter about the (unreasonably in their mind) high price.
A lot of teams view a WS trip or victory as a golden opportunity, thus, sending a top prospect isn't a stretch if it (A) gives you that chance, and (B) you have the resources to make a deal. It's not as if the team that gets him won't have the best chance at extending him if they have the funds to do so, and the teams other than Pittsburgh do.
Of course, Pittsburgh has the multiple prospects that won't hurt their farm, but they don't figure in my opinion.
Like I said the other day about Garza and the Cardinals, whatever contending team he goes to, they will have the distinct advantage of signing him long term. Garza to me (just speculating) seems to be loyal that way, and he knows he will be on a contender year in and year out. He's going to be loaded regardless.
I'd like to see what Garza's ERA would be this year had he not had that blow up a few weeks ago. What, would it be like a 1.65 ERA or something? opcorn:
