Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal

Sources: #Rangers close to acquiring Garza from #Cubs. Updated story with @jonmorosi: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/chic ... ers-071913 …

Peter Gammons ‏@pgammo

With Martin Perez out of the deal and 8 Rangers pitchers on the DL, the Garza-Texas trade seems imminent

Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan

Cubs closing in on Garza deal w/ Texas, two officials tell @Ken_Rosenthal

Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS

#rangers pitching prospects weighed in garza talks include edwards, ramirez, jackson, maybe mendez. http://cbsprt.co/12MEtgJ

Phil Rogers ‏@ChiTribRogers

Very good names in those Rangers-Cub talks. RHP C.J. Edwards, 21, has Cy Young tools. RHP Neil Ramirez, 24, is safe bet as No. 2-3 starter.

Tim Brown ‏@TBrownYahoo

Rangers, Cubs haven't gotten to point of exchanging medicals in Garza trade talks.

Jason Parks basically shot down Phil Rogers hard saying Ramirez and Edwards are bullpen guys.

I don't know much about them. There are also rumblings that Luke Jackson will be involved and the trade will revolve around him.

That's the angle that Cubs Den seems to be pushing.

Take this for what it is but some Ranger people are saying the deal is done. Just waiting for them to officially announce it and who is going. There are rumors that Soriano is involved. Remember, Nelson Cruz is probably getting suspended so its not out of the realm of possibility

I think Rogers is reallllllly overvaluing Ramirez at this point -- he's a #4 or 5, which is fine so long as you address that up front and not pretend like he's the second coming of Justin Verlander. Edwards has really come along nicely in his short stint in pro ball. He was a 48th round draft pick!!!! Nice stuff, solid demeanor. He could certainly end up being a strong #3 or even #2 when it's all said and done. The Cy Young talk is certainly premature, but he's been very impressive so far. I'd say he's the second best Rangers pitching prospect behind Perez.

Interesting. If Soriano would be part of that deal, with DeJesus coming off the DL it would make sense then to the poster who questioned why Junior Lake was brought up as opposed to a temp.

If I were Darwin Barney I'd be worried with the Lake call up. He has a lot of MIF experience.

Soriano to Texas has made a ton of sense from all involved. Weather, contender status, location all should make it a no brainer for Soriano to accept. Packaging the two together should result in a nice package coming back assuming Cubs pick up the check on Sori.

Don't have one. That's why I said take it for what it is worth. It came from another message board that is usually pretty factual. I to always thought that Soriano could be involved. So, yes the source may be fantasy land but it isn't far fetched.

Parks went into a little detail. He thinks Ramirez is a middle relief guy 7/8 tyoe. Edwards has really good stuff but Parks feels his secondary pitches are good not great and he doesn't think his body could hold up as a starter. He also is not consistent on his delivery. He thinks he could be a closer with the potential to start.

So is the trading of Garza a step forward or backward for the organization?

Depending on the return, but I wouldn't say its a step toward competiting the next couple of years.
