no. You will be overpaying him if you extend him. Do you want to pay anibal like money to a NON ace when you are still rebuilding? The guy will be 31 when they might start to contend. Its a waste of money and he doesnt figure into the plans for the future. The only way I can see them extending him is if the cubs brass feels that pies in the face are worth the contract.

When did 31 become over the hill for a pitcher?

Its a moot point now.

Garza is basically traded. This just in

Ben Devine ‏@Chicago_NFL_NBA 7m
Matt Garza to the Rangers is 99.9% done. Finishing medical records right now. Cubs get Olt, CJ Edwards, Neil Ramirez & 2 more.

Nothing unusual in his report that is beyond what has been reported by more reputable sources. So he could very well be "right". But I just don't that someone as off the radar as him would be the first to get the definitive package.

How does Garza warrant 5 players in return?

He gets it from other sources. Everybody agrees that the deal is done. Just passing through medicals. It is def. a 6 player deal and it def. goes with what every one was saying. Jackson was only one that could have been involved but multiple reports say the Cubs had players higher then him. I would venture to guess the first three names are correct. Now, if we got 5 players for Garza then that's a haul but it may be one more of our guys going their way.

O and I lol because its funny that people think twitter followers mean anything. He may be wrong, but I wouldn't go by twitter followers.

It may be 4, but Josh Davidson is reporting that Garza family is thrilled that he would be going to the Rangers. It would go a long way in contract talks. Seems like Texas is looking to sign him long term.

I go by twitter followers to suggest how likely he has unique sources that haven't already been divulged from the bigger names. I mean I could have put together that package and said it was 99% done. It doesn't increase the odds that it will happen exactly that way just because I tweet it.

Olt is okay. He strikes out a ton and has vision problems. He has a ton of power and walks a lot with good D. The walks part gets Theo motor running everytime. He yanks it to Moneyball every night! :troll:

5 guys with lots of warts instead of giving up one higher impact guy perhaps. I mean I like Olt, but there are huge red flags with him right now. Ramirez may have turned the corner but he has only option year left. Edwards is viewed by at least one expert (Jason Parks) as a bullpen guy or back end starter at best. Throwing in a couple more guys like that and it is pretty easy to see Garza being worth five of those guys.

A big issue here too is how other teams view Garza. Heard yesterday a lot of teams see him as a #3 starter

I doubt he put the package together. Like I said, he could be wrong but the names match up and his twitter doesn't seem to be one that just spouts out random shit. He retweets your "reputable" sources. Im fine with you waiting for a better source. I just find twitter followers to mean jack shit. Joe Buck has over a 100,000 followers and that guy is a tool bag of major proportion.

This gets into the various things that I have been hearing. Garza is not an elite starting pitcher, but he is the best pitcher for right now that is available. But he is a rental. But rentals last year netted legitimate prospects anyway. So yeah I just want the actual deal to be announced and analyze that instead of the various tweets about done deals.

Personally, I think that's accurate. On top of that, he's a #3 starter who's likely a 3-month rental.

I like him. I'd love him to be a Cub for the foreseeable future, but not at $16m+ per.

I think you missed the point I was saying. What you just said is exactly my issue with it. All he has given us is a little more definitive statement of the latest rumors from three or four reputable sources. He could turn out to be right, but I still don't buy that this guy is any sort of insider.
