When I moved into my house 2.5 years ago, it took me 3 hours to bolt our front door. I've never unbolted it. If someone comes to the door, I usually just open the garage door and go outside to talk to them or open up the window and ask what they want from there.
Wow, 3 hours is quite a long time but that is a clever solution. I bet you've never had any intruders. Mine takes about one hour to lock up myself so I usually just call in a door technician to get the job done in around 30 minutes. Yeah it costs a bit extra but you can't put a price on security.

Standing next to a conversion van in a lightning storm does NOT prevent you from being struck by lightning.

Grilling in your basement during winter time is a better alternative to frostbite.

Pro tip: Don't live in California if you don't want your house to burn to a crisp.

When you get stuck in the rain, go inside your house to stay dry. If you forgot your key, don’t worry, there should be a spare under the doormat.

The fact you don’t own a firearm I would just get something simple like a shotgun. If you have experience with firearms I would get a tavor

The gun of the Israel Defense Forces? The one that costs $1,700? That seems excessive for home defense, quite a leap from a shotgun, but yeah, great weapon.

America: Just a simple shotgun, can never have to much gun power!

When doing laundry, be sure to use laundry detergent to achieve maximum cleanliness.

Yes that’s is the one. You get a rifle caliber in a compact size. If you shop around and know how to buy online you can get it for 1500

I have another suggestion. Smith and Wesson governor. You can use three different calibers.

I've been on both sides of this, as both a robber and a home security expert. As a robber, I have encountered people with pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, machine guns, bazookas, you name it. That stuff didn't stop me. Let me tell you, the only way to truly protect your home is to LOCK YOU'RE DEADBOLTS.

When a burglar asks for your valuables, just give them to him. They’re not as important as the lives of you and your loved ones.

So had a near break in experience last night...gonna get a security system and a firearm. Any suggestions?

I would avoid a shotgun, mostly because of size, but if you do get one, a pistol grip mossberg 500 .410 is a good compromise. Especially if you have a wife that might need to use it.

A full frame pistol is probably the way I would go. Something that you are comfortable shooting.

As for security system... if you want something to make noise to hopefully scare perps off, then go for one of those professional ones that put sensors on everything. (Most robberies in my area are smash and grab so those alarms don’t do much except give them a timer)

If you just want camera evidence that someone was in your house, you can go as cheap as a camera and dvr bundle from Harbor Freight. Just make sure you hide the dvr well and put everything on UPS’s so that they don’t die when the power goes out. (A long with your WiFi). I use Foscam cameras. I also configured port forwarding and made at least one of the cameras accessible via phone while I’m away. (Just don’t use DDNS to support your camera’s accessibility outside of your home network. It’s a security risk I wouldn’t take)

There are other options, like Arlo, that save your camera data to the cloud and you can access that via mobile devices no matter where you are. (I just don’t want my video data stored in the cloud)
