How and why over West?

I think he is a bigger, stronger player than West was. More athletic and a better defender. Actually Jerry West was fourth on my list...but then I was thinking about Frazier too...

Ahead of Gervin too? Man I don't know...

Tough for me to put Wade ahead of West, Gervin, and Frazier......

As for the bolded I'm pretty sure you could make that claim about any player between then and now..or do you even mean relative to peers?

For some reason I always considered Gervin a small forward. I when I talk about his size and strength...I am speaking relative to West. He is not bigger than most top shooting guards, but his athleticism and his ability to dominate on both sides of the court is very high level at the shooting guard position. I wouldn't take Gervin or West over Wade...Frazier is a bit harder to decide on, but I am going with Wade because I believe these players could dominate in any era.

I always have a tough time judging like that because it's not really fair to guys like West who dominated their era and player with infereior training regimes etc. I always try to look at it based relative to their era and then weight it a bit for crossover to others.

I'd go

Jordan
Kobe
West

Then you have a cluster with Gervin, Wade, Monroe
Then Pistol(who some figure as more of a scoring PG) and Drexler grouped together.

The interesting thing would be where to slot in Iverson if you consider him a SG...

EDIT: Do you mean Earl Monroe instead of Frazier? Wasn't Frazier always viewed as more of a PG? Monroe was the SG?

I like how disinterested the player on the far left looks (not sure who it is).

"Ahh, **** this. Jordan's about to score again."

Absolutely right...Frazier played point...Monroe was really good, but not as good as Wade, Gervin was a great scorer, but couldn't play defense well at all. Wade is All NBA on both sides of the court. I had an argument with someone about Wade being better than Drexler, I will stick to that. Now I had no clue that Maravich was a shooting guard either...that is a bit surprising...

I'm positive that Maravich could've played SG at some point. That man could flat out score. He could do a lot of things offensively. Personally, I put him in the scoring PG mold, but he could've been a SG.

Like I said on Maravich a lot of people view him as a PG.

Hey houf, did you ever clarify?

Do you think Wade is the 3rd best SG ever?

Yes I do...

I think he is a bigger, stronger player than West was. More athletic and a better defender. Actually Jerry West was fourth on my list...but then I was thinking about Frazier too...

I'm very saddened that you guys have Wade in front of the Big O.

Oscar was a point guard not a shooting guard...
I haven't found a single thing that lists him as a point guard. It's possible that because of how good he was that he ran the point for a majority of games, but that doesn't mean he is a point guard.

Oscar Robertson was a point guard...there is no doubt about that. He was one of the first guards with a post game because he had nobody else on his team. That is why he would swing to different positions, but his primary position was point. If anything, you can call him a lead guard if not the point, but most refer to him as a point guard.
