I know nothing about pickups lol. I do know they make a difference but I'm not sure what that difference is. Much learning left to do.Depends on the pickups Clone...Check the stats on each guitar and see what pickups are in each..Thats the main difference..Everything else is either cosmetics or feel for the player.
Get to Guitar Center or some other musical superstore, and try each one out

Pretty much what I did when I got my acoustic. Just hard to find time to do so. I feel like it'd be more efficient to have an idea of what to look for at least instead of going in blind like I would be otherwise. Will likely still end up playing tons of guitars though, just for fun.Go try em out some day...Take the day and hit some guitar superstore..Stay all day and play as many as ya can.
Play cheap ones, intermediate, and even some expensive ones. Just to get a feel
Clone...When I got my first Stratocaster...I wanted a Clapton model like DaaBears has..Its one of the more expensive assembly line guitars. (Customs are a different animal).
Everyone said buy the American made ones, and not the Mexican made ones as they aren't made as well..I found a Mexican made Strat that played nicer than the American made one..I eventually bought the American made one (but not the Clapton model) because the pickups sounded nicer..It's all player choice
What do you think about Japanese made Fenders? I have a tele that's pretty sweet...
(it's not pink though)
Yeah when I got my acoustic I didn't think I'd be coming out with a Yamaha...that just happened to be the one that felt the best and also happened to have the best quality wood of all the guitars I tried. Similarly, I won't go to a guitar store with the mindset that I have to get a Les Paul or anything. But I'll probably start with that one first and compare all the sounds to that to see which one I like best. For all I know I could end up with a Mexican Strat too lol.Clone...When I got my first Stratocaster...I wanted a Clapton model like DaaBears has..Its one of the more expensive assembly line guitars. Asking about the pickups though because I want to know how they change the sound quality. This way if the guy says that this guitar has such and such pickups, I know what that means and what to expect.
Firewood
Well that was a lot of physics lol. Did clarify some stuff though so thanks. From what I've read so far, it seems like humbuckers are more common these days to reduce that feedback from other objects. The pickups sound comes from the quality of the wire and the "winds" they have inside the pickup...Wire is wound around a magnet to give the pickup its tone..each model and brand pickup is a little different depending on how its put together, and the wind's.
There are 2 basic types, a single coil, and a double coil(humbucker). A humbucker is 2 single coils laced together
Strats and Jazzmasters use single coils...The sheraton/335 uses Humbuckers, although I have a 335 with P-90's which are single coils.(special run)
Read this..It might help

So he plays a lefty guitar with the strings strung as if it were a righty guitar? As if you took a righty guitar and tried to play it lefty? Interesting...I can only somewhat play the guitar...which means I cam play, like, Institutionalized or the solo from the Misfit's "We are 138".
I have however rewired my brother's guitars--put in some active pickups (Duncan destroyers), changed the picup selector to something a bit more substantual, and changed out the volume knob to a heavy duty switch, along with relocations of switches when they'd interfere with his playing style (lefty strung righty).

That's how it sounds to me anyway.
