I can only somewhat play the guitar...which means I cam play, like, Institutionalized or the solo from the Misfit's "We are 138".

I have however rewired my brother's guitars--put in some active pickups (Duncan destroyers), changed the picup selector to something a bit more substantual, and changed out the volume knob to a heavy duty switch, along with relocations of switches when they'd interfere with his playing style (lefty strung righty).

But does it go to 11?

So he plays a lefty guitar with the strings strung as if it were a righty guitar? As if you took a righty guitar and tried to play it lefty? Interesting...

That's how it sounds to me anyway.
He actually takes righty guitars and flips them upside-down--and plays them lefty--I should have been clearer. I got the first axe in the family and he learned to play on mine, hence the upside-down strigning. Lefty guitars are a lot more expensive so he has an SG with a solid bridge for rhythm work, and a Rhodes V for solo work with a Floyd rose bridge--both righty models. My work, being the electronics guy, was to move and adjust the knobs, switches, and of course swap out the pickups.

The only left guitar he has is a quasi-lefty acoustic-electric. He got lucky in that a luthier he contacted has a guitar where they put a cutaway lefty body on a righty stock. The thing sounds as pure as the arctic snow and he got it for a steal.

It doesn't make as much of a difference as you might think. :)
I guess it depends on what you're doing. I'm basically just a rhythm guitarist so I just think of chord shapes mostly. It would seem like they'd be harder to play "upside down" but I've never really tried so I have no idea lol.

That makes a lot more sense lol

I hear it all depends. I can barely play righty and lefty I would probably sound like Good Charolotte. According to him the biggest problem with playing upside-down is reaching over the strings, but it's all in what you're used to--he has a bit of a problem playing when the guutar is strung "correctly".

But does it go to 11?
It's basically either 0 or 11^11. ;).

Seriously, with way the knobs are upside down his arm kept hitting the volume knob, so i wired to to a switch so that if his wrist hits it, it doesn't mess with it. Burly switch too--not a standard instrument switch but more like something I'd wire up into a tesla coil for shuitting it on and off.

I've got a yellowish, beige color Ibanez and a black Fender. And my amp is a Peavey Vypyr 15.

I am not as good as I wish I was, but they are still fun to jam on.

Those are REAL colors though. What are they called in guitar colors?

Might need BearsBud to translate for us.

Well that was a lot of physics lol. Did clarify some stuff though so thanks. From what I've read so far, it seems like humbuckers are more common these days to reduce that feedback from other objects.

Humbuckers were designed by Gibson to reduce the noise single coils made..Single coils are actually a hotter pickup, but people didn't like the noise they made..With today's better amps and electronics, single coils don't make as much hum as they used to, but the Humbuckers are popular with players who want real clean sounds.

My japanese tele custom has a humbucker down by the bridge and a feisty single coil up top. Awesome combination but I threw it in the fireplace because some pig fucking Special person old geezer wanting to win the internet told me it was firewood. :smug2:

That's what you get for having a shitty color guitar.

I used to own a Parker P-44 and a Tom Delonge yellow strat. The Parker was very nice. My brother got me into parkers. He absolutely shreds but has stopped because of his Navy career. Maybe he still plays every once in awhile idk. I always thought he shouldve pursued music.

That's cool. And a srs margin for such a yellow guitar.

Sometimes I wonder what kind of $$ i could pull in from all of my gear, but then I just think of my kids and how much fun they can have with it and how much it will cost them when they want to put their mitts on what I got.
