I want to see the Cubs blow the roof off this offseason and trade for Chris Archer or Sonny Gray. Not sure how realistic that is, but they are already in talks with the Rays regarding Baez, the Cubs have a few high end prospects that are blocked for the next 8 years, so they should make use of their value and get Archer, who IMO has the best contract in baseball.

What a bunch of sissy's.

Oh god, that's fucking gold...

Just pissing off Cards fans has to be worth $1 million...

LOL Tough crowd over there....they don't even want Cueto. Might have something to do with a bad NFL team, the choking Blues and now their beloved Cardinals starting to show some cracks.

Interesting side note, because the cubs have signed Lackey and Heyward the cubs are giving the cards 2 pick in next years draft. Not that it matters or anything but just found that sorta interesting. Cubs wont pick until the 2nd round at the earliest.

I'm not fully versed on this stuff but won't they get one back when Fowler signs somewhere?

There goes your theory that big FA's don't want to come to Chicago.

Well, wait a moment now. This is one guy. So far I have nailed everything this off season. Come on now, be fair.

Yeah, they're being fucking brutal to him over there. If the reverse had happened, I'm sure we'd have a couple assholes, but I hope Cubs fans would be classier than that. Everything everyone is saying is just fucking NASTY....

Funny thing is, most are accusing him of being a money grubber and abandoning them for money. Wait 'til it comes to light that the Cards actually offered him more... :lmao:

Cardinals fan tears are fucking DELICIOUS.

I disagree, but it matters not. Cubs definitely win the off season.

Look at teams like Boston, LA Dodgers, and Yankees. They give contracts to guys who probably were worth it but then you block the ability to give guys in the future deals. Right now they have two deals past four years: Lester (5) and now Heyward. That kind of flexibility is massively important in building a team.

Regarding arbitration, the Cardinals get compensatory picks, the Cubs picks are essentially forfeited and the spot is skipped.

True, but Cubs will also get a pick from Fowler walking so they will replace a pick in between rounds there

Assuming Soler is the RF next season, you will have a 32 year old Montero at C, a 35 year old Zobrist at 2B, 2 26 year olds(Heyward/Rizzo), 2 24 year olds(Bryant/Soler), a 23 year old(Schwarber) and a 22 year old(Russell) in your starting line up and you're looking at the vast majority of that being team controlled until 2021. The even scarier part is you still have Baez, Alcantara and Torres as 2B options as well as Happ if they keep him at 2B past instructs. This line up is built for the long haul. And there's still a bunch of interesting prospects in the minors who now become nice trade pieces.

See I'd go the other way. I think Baez has raised his floor and their ceilings are at least equal with Baez maybe a tick above, plus he can play any position but catch and pitch.
Baez swing is still way too complicated. Soler has better chance of success, imho. As soon as he starts putting a little more air under those LD, people will see. His swin is more simplified and he has a better eye at the plate...as of post-DL 2015 season.
