Heyward deal less than $185m. Believed to be eight years.

Last night it was stated on MLB network that the Cubs offered 175 million and the Cards were at 180. Not sure where it ended up.

Edit: years were not mentioned.

Yeah, and that comment isn't an outlier:

- @JasonHeyward I hope someone throws it at your face again you greedy piece of shit.
- For signing with the Cubs Jason Heyward I hope you get Lou Gehrigs
- I hope Jason Heyward breaks his legs every fucking spring training.
- @JasonHeyward you are dead to me, not for leaving but for going to the GOD DAMN ****** GOAT FUCKING @Cubs. I say thanks but wish you no luck
- I want to die. **** heyward and **** the cubs. I will burn wrigley to the god damn ground.

I haven't had a good taste of Cards fan tears since mid October. Damn, they sure are tasty...

I think it makes some sense to keep Solar. If Heyward will play CF for two years that give Kyle a chance to make it a C. If he can't you trade his big bat. Either way Solar goes to LF and Heyward RF.

Heyward was the guy I wanted. I didn't think they would spend the money for him though. He was the one piece that really helps this team. Honestly if they get Enciarte and Teheran too, it is damn close to what I suggested.

Re: the possibility of Heyward playing center, Wrigley has the 4th-smallest center field of any MLB park, by square footage (33,500 sq. ft).

He was there one season. All the traitor crap is funny. Plus if he took less money or the same money to come to the Cubs the talk of him greedy is also crap. The Cardinal fans shown at that page are dicks.

Strong rumors are swirling that the Cubs are in talks for a young starting pitcher, and it is believed to be Ross, Carrasco, or Salazar.

Of course, rumors are just that.

In order of who I'd want:

1. Carlos Carrasco (Projected ERA: 3.04 – Projected FIP: 2.96)
2. Tyson Ross (Projected ERA: 3.38 – Projected FIP: 3.15)
3. Danny Salazar (Projected ERA: 3.43 – Projected FIP: 3.53)
4. Kevin Gausman (Projected ERA: 3.84 – Projected FIP: 4.05)
5. Julio Teheran (Projected ERA: 3.84 – Projected FIP: 4.08)

I'm not a fan of trading Soler for Teheran/Enciarte. That's a depth deal the Cubs don't need to do. Theran is solid but doesn't have a ceiling to be a guy to replace Lester one day as the #2 of the rotation so he's just a guy who's in your rotation.

A bit more per year than I thought. I wonder where the opt out is and I wonder how much they pay him before the opt out. Hopefully the contract is a bit back loaded.

Replacement for Lackey?????

Edit: Plus they can move Hammel too.

I'm not sure on Teheran. The problem with evaluating him in my eyes is that he's just 24 and has been several years young at every level he's pitched at. Normally, I'd agree his 7.70 k/9 and 2.53 bb/9 rates are more a #3 look than #1/2. And given he doesn't really have a huge case in the minors of being a 9-10 k/9 guy but he was in the majors at 20. Syndergaard who was arguably the best pitcher to come up this season was 22 when he hit the majors. So, I feel like there could be more there with Teheran.

All that being said, given where the cubs are, I'd almost rather they wait for someone like Archer/Sale/Fernandez to actually become available rather than dealing Soler now and hoping for an improvement. I think their top 3 starters this season are perfectly reasonable and Hendricks and Hammel are not a bad 4/5. And if you simply must make a move, you can do it prior to the deadline.

Heyward’s deal with #Cubs includes TWO opt-outs, per @pgammo.

Jesse Rogers @ESPNChiCubs
So @jcrasnick reports 8 for 184. I have one opt out after 3. @pgammo says there is a second opt out

Agreed. I'd trade Soler to the Indians instead for Carrasco.
