The Cubs don't have to deal anyone for a CF'er and I can guarantee you that Baez could hold the fort down.

I would also bet that he would be a damn good CF'er with his SS instincts, arm, and cat-like (Tommy Boy reference) reflexes.
Yes. He is superb athletically. My only concern about Baez has always been the stick.

Solar has more value to the team unless you are getting a CF back. I think the pitching is good enough and the pitcher you get back is probably a replacement for Hammel, who won't even start in the playoffs. You might be able to Hendricks to the 5 and then the guy they get will have one start per series. They will lose Solar's bat and cheap long term deal for little value. The largest need for the Cubs is a CF or Heyward to CF and see if Kyle can move to catcher. If not Kyle is the better trade piece and Solar--assuming he can stay healthy.

Just the way I see it.

I think the point to pay attention to is that the cubs have put themselves into a position to where they don't HAVE to do anything now. they could make no more moves and be just fine. if something comes along in a trade offer that appeal to them they can make the move out of a position of strength not desperation. if they do decide to trade soler I would have to assume itd be for a good, young, cost controlled starter

Source: Heyward can opt out of deal with #Cubs after year three or year four if he exceeds certain plate appearance thresholds.

Like that. Basically makes him choose at year 3/4 assuming he's healthy

Solid player that will never be great making the most out of your position players? Overpaid for him IMO, yes he is good defensively but from what i hear his great defensive war come from 1.7 plays a game... is that really worth over $20mil per year for 8 years?

.311/.376/.522 with 4 HRs over 101 PAs. Prorate that to the typical 650 PAs for a full season and you're looking at 26ish HRs though that can be a bit inflated since he's hit so well. But if we go ball park 20 HRs he looks far more appealing.

if he opts out after 3....then a 3 year deal around 65 - 70 mil for his prime years of his career sounds like a steal to me

Not what we were talking about. I think I already said the samething. I would rather they do nothing. I just see CF as being a need than SP if they move Solar. That is what we were discussing.

and like I told you before....CF isn't an issue in 2016 if heyward is manning it daily

and P.S. - its SolEr not SolAr

Yes. He is superb athletically. My only concern about Baez has always been the stick.

There is another scenario too. Bryant has stated before that if he plays the outfield, that he prefers CF. Now, Jed had stated that Bryant is their third sacker, but it does leave some options to put him out there, and Baez at 3B which probably wouldn't be the worst thing in the world either. It's nice to have options.

I am aware of Baez's deficiencies at the plate, but he worked pretty hard last year to improve in some areas, and I am sure he is still honing his craft.

I do like a potential 6 or 7 hitter in the line-up that has the ability to take it out of the park in any direction with the flick of the wrist.

I don't want Bryant in CF. That is a lot of running for a guy who has played IF for a long time. I have no clue how it will affect his legs, and in turn his bat. I can see LF, but let's not put that stress on his hamstrings.

I still dont personally, thats just way too much money for a guy that isnt going to be a primary run producer... I would have been okay getting a guy like gerardo parra who is 28 and hit .320+ while in the NL last year and would be half the cost and can play all over the outfield

You don't make any sense. You want to trade one RF out, then put the best RF in the game in CF and then put someone who has never played RF in RF so you can pick up someone who may start one game playoff series.

Doesn't make more sense to either keep the OF as it looks right not or trade for a CF?
