My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Indiana Hoosiers
We can’t discount that possibility. That someone with no football acumen made the decision to keep Flus. But the mess of the offensive line is 100% on Poles, as was taking a SS in 2022 in the top 50
The even more beat up OL looked serviceable today against a much better defense then they have faced for weeks, so maybe they were just Waldroned.

It is weird how Poles has built the team outside in. I do think his plan is to go all trenches this offseason and if that’s the case it makes some sense. Not the way it’s normally done but it could work.

It should be that Poles is here for William's contract. That's the cycle that needs to end not the HC/QB cycle.
You let Poles spend his #1 pick Poles is the one who sees the player through to the end.

Flus should've been fired before that #1 was spent because he was on the hot seat but if there was any question about Poles he either doesn't get to spend it or he's fired then not a year after that.
I don't care what Poles does he should be here for 4-5 more years. If you fire him it's at the point you're ready to cut Williams.

I don’t think a new GM would have Caleb on a short leash. It would be the same leash as any QB gets. Murray is still starting, hell even Daniel Jones is for some reason.

Odds are Poles will survive but I don’t think he should. I’d give the job to Cunningham.

Forget about the short QB leash. How about the no tools for the QB you didn't draft to use that QB to tank so you can get your QB?

It's really not that Williams would have a leash at all. It's the the last GM's guys are not the new GM's guys.
The best thing for us is that Williams would probably get traded before he was given the Fields treatment.

Year 2 Fields was horrible talent but that had to be done and the GM did believe in Fields which is why he traded the #1 pick away. Fields just didn’t show enough in year 3, and that is why no team was willing to trade for him to be their starter.

I’ve seen many people say this. Or all the good moves were Cunningham. This is the front office version of the backup QB always being better.

It is about the only way I'd trust changing GMs and not getting a 3-6 year rebuild.
I figure all these players are Cunningham's anyway.

That’s fair but I just like how he speaks in press conferences and in the minimal clips we have seen he seems to be the voice of reason. Admittedly I don’t really know shit it’s just a gut feeling he will be the better GM.

I think another more subtle message in that Hoge Rant is about Ryan Poles too and his mid range (3rd-5th rounds) draft picks.

Same with Braggs calling out George for forcing him to bring Flus back, and not letting him fire him right now. The hint that all George thinks about, is his family pocketbook. Braggs might have his press access restricted a bit, after that

The other part that I know I agreed with on the Hoge rant was all the talk of history with the Bears. The entire organization is just stuck in the past. It starts with ownership and they bleed it down through the building.

It would be nice if they actually studied the history, especially recent history and learned from mistakes rather than repeating them. Like, don't study what you did before like that is a guide. Look at what you did and then do the opposite.

Would be a disaster if that happened.
It’s already happened. How many picks spent on quarterbacks in the last ten years? How many picks spent on wide receivers to make life easier for those quarterbacks? If you count the Claypool trade and DJ Moore as costing a first each, the answer is that they have spent six first round picks since 2021 on receivers and quarterbacks.

Someone needs to break the cycle but the reality is this comes with a mandate from ownership. The McCaskeys would rather the Bears lose while trying to build “le heckin modern offense” than win with defense and running game.

Or just get some linemen too. Offense or defense

How? Good linemen without blemishes very seldom hit the free agent or trade market. Even if they did hit the trade market you’ve got no picks left over to acquire them. And once all the first rounders are spoken for in this vain pursuit of quarterbacks and receivers there’s nothing left over to acquire the better line prospects, so you’re left scraping in the later rounds hoping on a prayer.

The Bears could have had Christian Darrisaw and Charles Cross with the picks they wasted on Justin Fields.

To some degree. But SS is not a high value position unlike OL. I like Brisker but build the trenches. Jurgens would be a decent center here
I won’t disagree with building the trenches as an overall strategy. Just saying Brisker has proven worthy of that pick. (When healthy)
