The best thing we can hope for Cutler is that he follows a career path similar to Eli Manning. Cutler is probably always going to be an ~85 (80-90) passer rating QB but hopefully he plays better in big games like Eli.

He was putting it together just fine last year until he got hurt...and that was w/ crappy WRs for the most part. Do you guys actually watch the games? Or just read a Moon article and get yourself all worked up? I think he wrote the "no more excuses" piece about 3-4 times this offseason, in several different forms.

I just read Moon articles

Cutler already got it once. The year he made the Pro Bowl in Denver. He'll get it again this year.

i'm the biggest cutler fan and supporter, but its put up or shut up time he turns 30 next year. he is getting too old for the "he has so much potential" talk. if he doesn't put up career numbers and play great then he is who he is. a above average qb who is erratic at times and lacks leadership intangibles
And you're Cutler's biggest fan and supporter?? Could have fooled me.

omg his QB rating is not as high as others. abandon ship!

His play during his last 5 games of last year was simply amazing, and if I see that again this year, I won't have any problem with that. **** the numbers.

i agree with this. The problem I have with Cutler is that in his time at Denver when he had some good players on offense and a good offensive line, he was still incredibly turnover-prone and bad stupid throws. In Chicago, people try to explain this away by saying Cutler doesn't have weapons and doesn't have time to throw. This is true, but even when he had weapons and time to throw in Denver, he was still throwing 20+ INTs and having a rating in the 85 range. In the past, many of Cutler's bad throws were in the red zone when he wasn't pressured...he was just trying to force the ball into a tight space. This has been Cutler's MO for his whole career, so I don't see him making this huge leap to an elite level 100 rating QB.

Cutler has largely remedied the boneheaded red zone plays the last 2 seasons...

I get its been incremental, but Cutler has been improving. We will see where he tops out. But he has cut way down on the dumb shit and his floor has come up considerably...

Cutler will need to limit his TO's in the red zone. He did a lot better last year...but I think this was due to him not forcing the ball & a decent goal line back in Barber. So maybe the "less is more" approach is a good thng for him. It sure seemed like in the past he was trying to overcome a bad matchup (not in Bears favor) by forcing the ball when they got down near the goalline.

Of course there will always be those "dropped int's" but hopefully they drop more than they catch...LOL! What will be interesting to see is if they incorporate more rollout plays. GB seems to do this with success because of Rodger's mobility. Cutler's pretty mobile too.

Okay it's the end of the month so I'm back to work.

He already put up career numbers in Denver years back and where did that get him?

(8-8 and watching the playoffs on his couch)

Cutler really needed to learn how to win. And for all the odds stacked against him...he's learned that here.

Now that he's got all his toys....I still don't expect 4,500 yards passing....I only expect the offense to consistently move down the field.

I expect 10-12 wins every season for the next five years...that's what I want out of Jay Cutler and the rest of the Bears. And while I'll admit that Jay can be the biggest jerk in the league at times...I do believe he's going to win a lot of games here and just maybe take us to the promised land.

(hopefully before we break Urlacher for good)
C'mon now! Not the 8 & 8 argument vs a winner. Total bull.
I guess Dilfer turner a corner from a joke to a SB winner on the Ravens...or Alexis Smith suddenly turned into a machine with his 180 ypg and 1 td last yr?
Let me guess...Dan Marino isn't a winner and Joe i have more picks than tds Nameth is

That was why many compared Cutler to Favre. He would always take that high risk throw and it would often times be intercepted, just like Favre. The problem is, Cutler isn't throwing TD passes like Favre to counter that.

I can't say I see him making the huge leap either, even if he does at some point throw 30+ touchdowns, I dont see the interceptions being under 10 in a season for him.

21-9 in his last 30 games. With Sausagebacher, Roy Williams, Marion Barber and Earl Bennett as his #1 by default. I'd say he's doing just fine.

I think Cutler will use the experience he has learned here and be much better than 08. Cutler hadn't been a turnover machine since09

.
I will add to that thought. Not only was he forcing the ball when he got down to the goalline, but he was forcing the ball to Greg Olsen. In other words, people generally knew where he was going near the goalline which made it easy to defend and intercept.

Now he can pass to 2 tall receivers, Bennett, a TE, or have someone run the ball which makes the offense less predictable and harder to defend.

Why is 30 too old? Tony Romo is 32, all the experts still gush about his potential when he "puts it all together", and Cutler's got the same number of playoff wins as he does.

Rodgers played one season in his first 4 years, and Cutler has most certainly shown that he has it in his first 4.
When did Cutler show he had it? Never had a rating even over 90 and never won crap. Was part of an epic collapse in his last year in Denver and got taken down to the whipping post by Green Bay in the only year he was in the playoffs. Rodgers was on the bench for 3 years awaiting Favre's dismissal and the first year he started he put up better numbers than Cutler ever did.

You're right...he did think Hanie would make Bears fans forget about Cutler

Ha he went even further saying there would be a QB battle between Hanie and Orton the following camp when it was reported the Bears were scraping up check down charlie off waivers.

It was a good call.
