I was born in America, as were my parents and grandparents. My ex-wife was from Romania, and I have tons of Romanian friends. I agree with KOTL that there should be consistency. Each person that goes through the process has a different experience.

Sometimes people call me a hypocrite because one of my top 3 issues is illegal trespassers from Mexico and other Central/South American countries. I have no problem with, and even encourage legal immigration. The USA is a great country because we are a melting pot of other nations. However, there is a HUGE difference between people who come from other lands and want to be Americans in every sense of the word, and those who just hop the fence to work here, avail themselves of our social services, and send their money back home.

I will concur as well.

Shall we cue the video interview of Obama's aunt again?

What do you suppose Canada would do if "Americans" started crossing the border and stealing jobs? They already interrogate you in the airport if you say your there to work.

Good point.

And to add, have you ever seen Mexico's immigration policies?

I have to double-check but I think only people born there are allowed to buy property.

Edit: I think I might be wrong here.

I'll have to find a better link tomorrow.

I'm not sure how credible this link is but it looks like U.S. citizens can buy land inland.

Most of the links in the original post don't work...

Is the "Centre for Immigration Studies" a bona fide think tank? The other link that worked was from the Jeff Rense site...Jeff is known as a "conspiracy theorist"

Rense's radio program and website, Rense.com, cover subjects such as 9/11 conspiracy theories,[3] UFO reporting, paranormal phenomena, Holocaust denial,[4] Zionism, tracking of new diseases and possible resultant pandemics, environmental concerns (see chemtrails), animal rights, possible evidence of advanced ancient technology, geopolitical developments and emergent energy technologies, complementary and alternative medicine among other subjects.

Rense's show has been noted as being among "conspiracy-oriented Internet radio shows that often feature antisemites and extremists" by the Anti-Defamation League, a non-profit organisation that opposes antisemitism.

That number is one third the cost in the original post.

I don't have a career, I'm taking about a 350-400 dollar paycheck.

I know I am in for a rude awakening, but I also plan on living as cheap as I can for as long as I can. And won't you be in for a rude awakening when you have to support someone other than yourself too?

which is why I don't have children or support anybody other than myself.

As to strict immigration policies, Japan is by far the worst and its extremely racially and socially bias, but nobody cries about them.

Wanna talk restrictive? When I went to work in Korea I had to purchase and provide my own criminal background check, AIDS test, and be interviewed by the Korean Consulate before even being considered for entry into the country to work. Can you imagine what would happen if the USA said "Sorry, you have AIDS, therefore you can't come here."

There was a travel ban on HIV+ folk coming into this country. It was lifted I think a few years ago.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. I had no idea. Here is a short excerpt from something I looked up:

A study conducted in 2006 showed that of 1113 HIV positive survey respondents. 349 (31%) had traveled to the United States. Of those 349 that had traveled to the US, only 14.3% traveled with the mandatory waiver to obtain a travel visa. Many simply did not disclose their status. This study not only shows the inefficacy of the travel ban, but shows the harm presented to HIV positive individuals who desire to visit the United States. The study showed that patients on anti-retroviral therapy (212 patients) were more likely to go off their medication, increasing their chances of developing drug-resistant HIV strains or developing AIDS. The study concluded that people do so “with insufficient planning and advice.”

Only about a dozen countries around the world maintain a travel ban on people living with HIV. These countries are: Iraq, China, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Sudan, Qatar, Brunei, Oman, Moldova, Russia, Armenia, and South Korea. Should the United States still include itself amongst these countries in discriminating against people living with HIV?

In other words, if you didn't tell us you had AIDS, no problem, come on in.

So when it comes to something like health care **** how other countries do it, we're America, but for immigration policies we should model ourselves on beacons of democracy like Russia, China, and Iraq?

I think the world would be a much better place if it was only one country. No matter who it was that won dominance.

Sorry for showing up late to the party. The ONLY thing I want to say right now is that the first post is crap. The numbers are Faux News math meant to alarm and scare you. If you just look at each point then add up all the numbers it is trillions of dollars. Our budget deficit isn't anywhere near that. And the assertion that the war costs are inconsequential compared to these made up costs is ludicrous and dangerous.

Talk about propaganda...

That was my original reason for getting worked up in my posts.

I apologize some of the links aren't working, they did before I cut and pasted the entire first post.

Maybe I needed to add each link individually with the "insert link" button?

I have no idea.

The links that don't work will have to have the link tag around them. If they get to long they become truncated automatically.

So yes, for the ones that aren't working you'll have to insert them using the "Link" feature.

Thanks, I'll try to find the original links to add them properly.
