The whole close the border or deport them thing is irrelevant. It is a symptom not the problem. Figure out the problem, figure out a solution and you will at least cut into the illegal immigration numbers not saying you will get rid of 100% but you will cut into it. I really don't think the average jose wants come to America illegally but whatever the factors are it forces their hand so to speak. The criminals, the MS-13 guys and all that, yeah they don't want to come here legally but I think that itself needs a different solution over the common type illegal immigration.

I think he meant that it is much easier access, as you also pointed out, when you live next door and can hop the fence. People who want to come here illegally from other nations across the sea have to take a boat and pay money.

Or they can just visit Mexico "on vacation" and do what everyone else does. I really don't understand how this isn't a bigger priority for our government. With how easy it is to get across the border, and how big a mess Mexico is, how many terrorists could we possibly be letting in the country through our southern border? I shudder to think about it.

This is a whole different wrinkle to the equation. Are there people who are here illegally that deserve to stay? Yep. We can't just throw everyone out, and we can't just let everyone stay, but as some other folks and I are saying, we have to at least stop the flood of 8,000+ illegals per day crossing our southern border.

The problem is out of our control. The problem is overpopulation and poverty in the countries to our South. That is THEIR country's problem, not ours. I really don't understand how we can continue to allow people to pour into our country from Mexico, and sustain our economy. There just aren't enough jobs here.

The cost to taxpayers could be cut down if we just implemented some kind of Social Security verification system. That way you don't have these people collecting benefits they are not entitled to. It would also keep a large number of them from getting jobs, since they are using fake SS numbers to do so.

Yea and the issue is treated about as much as traveling in the NBA. There are tons of things illegal in this country I'm sure you wouldn't consider someone a criminal for, this is one for me.

Please don't get me started on pro sports. As a former employee for an NFL team, and the NBA, I am disgusted by the amounts of money we are talking. I am so glad that hockey hasn't become the spectacle that those leagues have. Example: Here in Jacksonville there was a tax to pay for the stadium, and the city (taxpayers) are responsible for maintenance and upkeep on a yearly basis. This is no different from other cities. I just can't help but feel bad for those people who really can't stand, or have no interest in the NFL to begin with, yet they are forced to pay for a team. I hear over and over about how a pro team makes money for a city, but honestly I just don't see it. After Jacksonville hosted the Superbowl they were left with a bill, not a check.

But that is suggesting you have a problem with immigration, legal or illegal. The question for me is why are they coming here illegally.

Their first act in this country is to break a law by entering unlawfully, that puts a bad taste in my mouth. It doesn't for you and that's fine. I don't give a shit that they come here, the illegal part is a symptom of the problem not the actual problem.

I have a problem with uncontrolled immigration. There's a big difference. I have no problem with people immigrating here, but the current growth rate of our population is unsustainable and immigration is a huge part of that.

All three of my grandparents that came here from Europe, did so legally, and became citizens. Comparing people that are coming here to milk our system and make money, to people that were fleeing countries decimated by war, to escape hell, is hardly a good comparison to make... If all these illegals coming over from Mexico were really serious about staying here, they would care about becoming citizens, and they wouldn't break the law as their first action in their new "home". Bottom line is, they don't, and I really don't give a shit how many of them you have helped out at food depositories. One of my friends came over here from Poland when he was ten years old. His family did so legally, and his parents became citizens. There are a LOT of people that follow our rather EASY path to citizenship. And yes, it is fairly fucking easy when you compare it to other countries, and the benefits you receive from doing so. Then again, why become a citizen when you can milk our system by committing fraud and stealing from our government as an illegal, and then go back to your real home and live like a king?

Just saw this...WHOA Pez!

Have you been to Mexico lately? It is ravaged by war and lawlessness right this very minute. The cartels are killing every one! It's been that way for some time just not getting the press. And it's the same way for most of the central American countries.

Nope. Don't plan on going there anytime soon either. Really don't feel like getting kidnapped and help for ransom. You know?

Our open border only contributes to the problem, because it allows the Cartels to sell all the drugs they want in the US.

That's simply not true. Panama, Nicarauga, Belize, Costa Rica for example are very popular places to have a vacation home on the beach and have large populations of retired Americans. I vacation in Panama regularly and have never had problem one. Sure Mexico and Guatemala are notoriously unsafe but that hardly constitutes "most" of Central America. Are there areas in any country you avoid? Without a doubt, but that is true of any place you go.

I was under the assumption that it was mostly cartel on cartel killing that is happening down there. Is that somehow incorrect? If it's cartel on cartel, I could really give a shit. Hopefully they wipe each other out. Still, comparing drug wars to World War I? Come on. We also have a pretty substantial number of gang related deaths here in the US as well...

Hey Wino, did you get medicine for that Asbergers yet? I also wouldn't want to go to A GOOD NUMBER of the countries in northern South America for the same reasons.

Pez it kind of is cartel on cartel, but they don't exactly meet at the school yard at 3pm and have a knife fight. I'm talking bombings, shootouts, family members of cartel people, common people and politicians they are trying to extort...that is where the deaths are coming from.

I completely agree that we have a problem in this country with Central and South American immigrants IF they are in fact failing to pay taxes and sending their earnings back to their home countries. As PSR has tried to assert, that is much more of a misnomer than reality. Most get here and try to live an honest life and at the end of the day their rent and bills just consume too much of their cash. There are not a whole lot of Western Union money transfers going back to their home countries.

Sounds like you've never been and are making an ass of yourself. Are we talking about Central America or South America now?

Not from my experience...
