There is almost no chance Fowler comes back next year. This is wish thinking.

If they don't it is due to a $ issue going forward. But the team will be worse with Almora in CF every day.

Yes, there will certainly be growing pains at the plate with Almora. Hopefully his defense will make him an average player next year.

I love Almora but I'm not sure he'll ever be able to hit at the MLB. He's an electric defender though.

His hit tool isn't the problem, that's actually fine. The problem is he doesn't have the power or patience to increase his offensive value past being a 8-9 spot hitter. He has got to find a way to increase his BB%, and he's never shown that ability either in the minors or in his short stint in the majors.

They have Jeimer Candelario in AAA. Now if they did convert Bryant into a RF. Moved Baez to 3B every day and used Jimer as a 3B/1B guy to free up Baez to move it could work. This puts Heyward in CF. That could work.

Almora's biggest weakness is he attacks early in the count. AAA he is hitting .309. But that is against AAA talent. I've always felt that he is just another Castro at the plate. His CF D makes him desirable but all he is is a contact hitter. Even in AAA he has a total of 8 BB. That tells me he is up there to hit not get on base.

You do know teams go above and below .500 regularly and it makes absolutely no difference. This is the dumbest argument you have ever made. You keep sayng he did his damage against lesser teams. He has crushed the Reds. Thats it. You said he did most of his damage in Coors. He had 1 home run this year. He has hit more at Petco.

Also, what are you talking about after all star break? He has a higher OPS after the all star break than before. If you are talking teams over .500. That is dumb again. You would have more of a leg to stand on digging into the pitchers they faced.

Disagree. He said Harold Baines had a case for the hall of fame.

This entire thread and argument is kind of stupid, so I'm not surprised brett started it. 'Top 5' is such a lame arbitrary cut off that does it really even matter? All that matters is Bryant is a REALLY good/great MLB baseball player. Whether he is top 3, top 5, top 7, top 10 is completely irrelevant and pointless. He's a damn good baseball player. Let's just leave it at that.

Some of the guys brett would take over him are laughable, but that's not too shocking. Everything brett says here is laughable.

It would seem that way....but that's what was being said last year at this time too, wasn't it?

Disagree on you disagreeing with me disagreeing. He thought OPS+ = OPS

He says the 05 White Sox weren't lightning in a bottle because they won a lot of games in the 90s, won 90 games and missed the playoffs in 06, and won the division in 08.

Oh I agree. I called him below average because 49 is below 50. But really he's average if you give average a range bigger than .01

You are also defining average" solely by fielding percentage, which is flawed thinking.

If Triple Crown stats mattered, there wouldn't still be a significant number of people bitching that Trout got hosed out of a MVP award by Cabrera.

Best hitter is in the 3 hole and latest data suggests the 2, which is why Bryant is there and Zobrist isn't. Bryant would have had better stats if Maddon had moved Heyward down in the lineup much more quickly.

I was not hyping RBIs. Hope you were referring to someone else.

I was pointing out another poster's flawed thinking that he needs to be 4th cuz he gets RBIs. I am not arguing that Bryant should bat 4th.

By the way, would anyone be surpirsed next year if Bryant hits third behind Schwarber and Rizzo then fifth?

Zobrist
Schwarber
Bryant
Rizzo
Russell

Yes. I can't see Rizzo down that far getting fewer AB's

He's putting up crazy numbers and more importantly -clutch, timely hits.

.303/.395 with 35 HR's and 89 RBI's.

And it's still August. Wow!

He is really good and I hope he stays healthy and plays with the Cubs for a decade.
