Well, good point, and I agree somewhat. It appears Maddon was trying to load up the lefties at the top by switching Rizzo and Soler. I definitely don't like Coghlin at the cleanup.

I said before that maybe put Soler at cleanup until Bryant comes up. :dunno: Put Mendy at 2 if Maddons worried about the lefty righty stuff. I might have gone with something like this if I did make a change, but maybe just staying with the same lineup, as you say.

Fowler
Mendy
Rizzo
Soler
Montero
Castro
Coghlin
Hendricks
Herrera
Im hoping for something like this come this weekend. .

1 . Fowler
2. Coughlin
3. Soler
4. Rizzo
5. Bryant
6. Castro
7. Montero
8. pitcher
9. Alcantara

Watching Coghlin with the double, he might look good at the 2 spot. :yep: And as I'm writing this, he steals 3rd.

Looks like the 17th with the Pads after the off day would be the right time for him to promote.

I'm still seeing:
1 Fowler
2. Soler
3. Rizzo
4. Bryant
5. Castro
6. Montero
7. Mendy
8. Pitcher
9. Cogland/Szczur

The bullpen has to close them down now. We got a few more chances to get some runs, but we can't give up any more.

I remember when people told me I was dumb for hating the Dj Lemahieu and Tyler Colvin for Ian Stewart and some pitcher I forgot. We had Darwin Barney gosh darnit. Lemahieu being traded pissed me off.

How many of our sluggers gonna leave men on base? This has been a very frustrating game

I am not a fan of the lineups Maddon has put together. I get it, but we watched RR do a lot of this last year early, too. It would look a lot better if the guys hit consistently.

I don't really see the reason to lament. For one, just because LaMahieu has played well in Colorado doesn't mean he would have done the same had he stayed with the cubs. And besides that, had the rest of the events that played out did, he still has no place on the team going forward. Even if you look at that as not being something that was guaranteed to happen, Watkins at the time was higher rated, you had Alcantara who was higher rated, you had Baez who was higher rated and as we've seen hasn't stayed at SS. I'm not certain but I think Lake was a infield possibility too at that point as I think he was still playing 3B.

And even if we ignore that and say what is what is today's value of LaMahieu the answer is still not much. That's not to shit on him as a player as he's a decent second tier starter but no one is going to give you much for him and with what the cubs have in terms of prospects he isn't a long term solution. I doubt he'd even have played over Valbuena who turn his playing time into decent value in returning Fowler.

So, regardless I don't really see that the cubs lost anything. Additionally, it's easy to say man Ian Stewart is shit now. But keep in mind this is the exact tact the front office took trying to rehab Arrieta, Strop, Valbuena and various others with spectacular results. Stewart was BA's #38 prospect in 2008, #46 in 2007, #16 in 2006, #4 in 2005, #57 in 2004. This was prior to having Mike Olt. It was prior to having Kris Bryant. Stewart was going to be 27 and was one year removed from hitting .256/.338/.443. That season the cubs had all of Stewart, Valbuena and Vitters as 3B options. If someone wants to argue they shouldn't have let ARam walk then fine. That's probably the right guy to fill that problem. However, if you take him out of the equation for whatever reason it's an entirely reasonable move they made.

Either way, i really see no reason to feel bad that LaMahieu isn't part of the cubs anymore.

Good talk at the mound. Resulted in breaking ball in the dirt that got away. :D

Great insight as usual.

Im sorry, its hard to respond to a book. Let me paraphrase, Watkins was not rated higher, Alcantara did not break out until that season. Baez was just in his first full year of minor league ball. Lemahieu was a major leaguer who had hit at every level and could play almost every position on the baseball field and play it well. Darwin Barney could not hit a lick.

Ian Stewart wore out his welcome in Colorado. Tulo hated him and said he was only looking out for himself. He was a selfish player that only cared about making his money. He proved with the Cubs later. Lemahieu was never given a chance and I believe would have beat out Barney in the spring. The Cubs traded him because he never developed the power people thought would happen with his large frame. Theo Epstein even said that they missed badly on that trade. So, in essence, saying a guy who is a GG and is only 26 years old has minimal value is not accurate. Ian Stewart did absolutely jack shit for the Cubs. Nothing. So, yes, no was an apporpriate response.
