I think with Maddon and having Russell over his shoulder, he will be stepping it up more this year...

Hopefully you're right! I'll tell you my biggest concern, it's Castro's mental makeup. He's got a ton of talent, but I question his mental toughness. People think I'm a Castro basher, that's not the case, I want him to be the player he can be.

He needs to play better as far as his defense and base running, period. He seems to have mental lapses, imo. My biggest worry has been with Maddon's emphasis on defense, and Russell waiting in the wings, as you say, that he would actually get worse.

Pressure tends to make players with suspect mental toughness to play worse. Again, I hope Russell's development DOES help Castro get it together. Contrary to people's opinion of me, I'd Love to see him put it all together. :yep:

There's no such thing as clutch. There are good players who hit well and people who don't.
Here's the Beer Pride worth ignoring.

Feel free man. I respect what he has to say, so I'm trying to be respectful about it. It's a subject I disagree with so much, I even suggested he not talk to me about it. Like I said before, if someone disagrees with you, you all of a sudden have an issue with them.

Beck can at least have a convo w/o being an idiot. I respect that, and tried to convey that to him. If you want to keep going about it, and being an idiot, feel free to tune me out dude. I won't be mad at ya! As it seems, it looks like I might be better off. :yep:

Man, it's gonna be nice to get this kid in the lineup!!! I literally can't wait. Was position is he playing?

Russell has been more consistent. 1 for 5 and still hitting .308. With a BB. Bryant was slumping and today he just woke up. 3 for 4 1 2B 1 HR 3 RBI's. with a BB.

I do not think they will be able to hold Russell back too long. His game is right there and more complete that Castro's.

And I'm not trying to be a dick either but the very first thing I said in any of this conversation was "According to the metrics, there is clutch hitting." I don't know how I can be more clear than that. Even then you chose not to read what I had to say and assumed some how the exact opposite. That doesn't strike me as having a conversation with someone since you clearly weren't reading what I had to say.

If you're just saying you can't be arsed to talk about the topic that's fine too. But I'll remind you that you're the one who brought up clutch hitting to begin with as I was replying to you and Parade.

Again, I apologize. Parade had already soured me on the subject. You didn't do anything wrong, I had just tuned it out as I said after hearing what Parade was bringing to the table. After reading this entire post, we could probably have a good convo about this sometime, but not during the game.

Again, I apologize for not hearing what you have to say on this..... maybe another time for me.

That's good news, imo. I really like Russell as our SS of the future. I totally agree that we'll see Russell sooner than later. The Cubs will have to make a decision soon, and it won't happen until we see him play in the bigs.

My dilemma's right now are...... what's the best position for Castro if he is moved, 2B or 3B? How is Bryant going to holdup in the bigs at 3B. We all know if his defense is suspect, it WILL be exposed in the bigs.

And the biggest question mark? BAEZ!!! What if he put's it together. One thing for sure, it's sucks to have these problems. ;)

It will be interesting to see if Olt is out for awhile. I don't see any way they call up Bryant but if Olt is on the DL someone is coming up. I think it might be Lake honestly. Lake played some 3B in the minors and gives you another OF option. Presumably, Alcantara/La Stella starts at 2B/3B. I suppose you could call up Baez as well but he seems like he could use the work in the minors and plus you're burning an option for him. You're less worried about that with someone like Lake.

Yeah, like Maddon says, the games will dictate what happens. If Olt takes a hit, someone is gonna step up!

If Olt is DL on Monday it will be Lake. ..
La Stella can handle 3B for 4 games. ..

Bryant can come up on Friday

I hate to bring this up, but for anyone that thought the Cubs would keep Bryant down longer than the 12 days, now the Cubs have a built in excuse to bring him up right away. :elephant:

Another thing to consider though is that it's not just a matter of calling him up. He's not currently on the 40 man. So, to call him up you have to DFA someone. Rafael Lopez(C) is possible if they intend to go with 3 catchers all year. Brian Schlitter, Zac Rosscup, Blake Parker, and Joe Ortiz are options for pitchers. You could also DFA Lake but that seems unlikely. Not saying that it will be a huge hang up for them to cut someone eventually but there is a cost associated with calling him up. They also might be able to move Turner to the 60 day DL which would temporarily free a spot for them depending on how long they intend to shut him down.

Ok.. we can put the Bryant thoughts away for a week...

@CSNMooney: #Cubs 3B Mike Olt said “I’ll be ready to go” on Sunday vs. #Rockies.

:p you're always raining on our parade. I'm glad he's OK. I have been high on his improvement this spring. He can give us some pop off the bench this season, which is a good thing.
