Wouldnt sleep on Baez yet. First two games were rough and since then he has been putting the bat on the ball and doing some damage. He got kicked out of last nights game. They would love to add that power bat at some point if he can control the K's He has a couple of months before the Cubs decide which route.

I suggested all off season that they needed to get a LFer but most of you liked Cogs cause of his OBP potential. ..

Cogs a good 4th OFer, that it

Cogs has fallen in line with the rest of the scrubs that Theo and Jed signed to play filler roles while the farm was in rebuild mode. This year stuff like this should not be acceptable anymore.

I would still sell him in a heart beat if he brought back Cole to the Cubs. The line up needs more proven talent right now with Russell, Bryant and Soler in it. The last thing they need is another unproven player in adjustment. It would be a wasted year then.

Its mental blocks. Its nothing physical. I equate it to free throws in basketball. Shaq has been documented shooting over 80% at the free throw line in practices. He go into a game and would hit 50%. He said it was something mental he could never get over. Its like their subconscious fucks their world up. I mean Knoblauch was a good defender then couldnt throw to first base anymore. The human mind is fucked.

Yeah I mean I get that its psychological. I have a psych background(minor in college) so I get that side of it but it's just interesting to me how the block is different from mound to home vs mound to 1st/2nd/3rd.

I wouldnt sell him if you are unsure of other players. The Cubs have depth all around. It will sort itself out.

It comes down to the approach these kids have at the plate. Bryant, Soler and Russell have been more disciplined hitters.

I think it will come down to Baez was inherited goods vs their choices.

So nobody discusses the game while it's going on in a game thread?
Doesn't make senses.

sorry

In fairness, it is a series thread and the discussion started after people being upset about the past 2 games. I mean I get I'm wordy. I've admitted as much various times. And perhaps it's better left for another thread but I honestly didn't think it was worthy of it's own discussion. I was just annoyed because I felt people were looking at the wrong causes of the loss. It's why I enjoy the stats aspect that some hate so much. I enjoy digging into the minutiae because you often find unexpected root causes. For example, you wouldn't expect a team that has scored 13 runs the past two nights to hit .222 with RISP. You could argue they probably should have had another 2-3 which maybe wins one of the games.

MVP should be on a play off bound team. I hate seeing a celar dweller having a MVP winner. It's like ya and what did you do to win games? All you did was pad your own numbers.

I think that makes absolutely no sense.

That is saying, essentially, that you become MORE valuable to your team as they add more good players around you, which makes you less important to your team.

Or, phrased another way - in the eyes of the people who think like this, and many, many people do - as a team adds more and more good pitchers, their hitter becomes more valuable.

I think it is sad that all MVP voting has gone this way in recent years. It isn't a player's fault if his pitching staff sucks.

Russell has struck out 65 times and walked 12 times since becoming a Cubs in AA, AAA, and MLB. 23 Strikeouts to 2 walks in 51 PA.

Soler is walking at a 8% clip and striking out at a 35% clip.

I dont think their approach is much different just perception.
