Mind your own business...I'll "lap up" any posts I want. No matter what he does with his bat, there's no denying Baez's defense on either side of second base.
Beckdawg will be along shortly to let you know about Baez' defense.[emoji14]

A couple of things, Baez has always been a slow starter. He did it every year in the minor. Also, he was 0 for 5. OK. He is still hitting .273. When he gets zoned in, thats when he will start walking. He will never be a huge walk guy. His hard contact though can counter act that some because he should have a higher BABIP than an average player. He also profiles to a 30 homerun plus guy that can swipe 20 plus bags and excellent D. Also, he is a great base runner. Baez brings a ton to the table. Soler only brings a bat and he hasn't been killing it at this point. I think the Cubs value Baez much more than Soler. They like versatile players and Soler D has not been the near the expectations they had for it. He takes some horrendous routes.

Did you see him try to catch the ball at the wall the other day? It's not out of the realm of possibility.
He does have some moments where he channels his inner Canseco.

I wanted to see Russell and Baez play middle infield today....you act like I wanted to play Maddon out there. Lighten up, ace.

He has always been a streaky hitter. He has gotten better on not going into long funks. Also, his walk rate makes him a tough out at all times.

Looks like Simon's taking one for the team. Might see a position player on the mound before this one's over.

Lighten up? I even put an emoticon at the end of my post so you would know it wasn't a big thing.

I wouldn't want Lackey as the #2 either, but since Arrieta and Lester are 1 and 2, Lackey is a #3. Also, There wasn't any other Cubs pitcher capable of quenching the fire, which makes the game last night look more like an anomaly as opposed to the usual.

Exactly, there's a reason that winning 90 games is a good year and 100 games is a great year.

Arrieta and Hammel need to have an Abe Lincoln lookalike contest.

And he exits the 3rd with 70 pitches and 8 runs.... Don't think the Cubs liked being on the other side of a trouncing yesterday. :nope:

Just saw that LaStella has 3 ABs already and the Reds are just getting their 7th batter to the plate

How awesome is it that you can rest 2 starters, one being a hot leadoff hitter and you still come out and score 8 runs through 3 innings

Absolutely. The Cubs have so much flexibility, and Joe is a genius at taking advantage of it, imo. Now a couple guys will get 2 days to rest up for Mil and Atl. All while it looks like we're gonna take 3 of 4 from Cincy.
