I don't mind him, I'd prefer him as a 4 though

He seems to be the kind that looks good for a couple innings and then has 1 or 2 bad ones.

I just don't have that confidence in him to be that 3rd guy come playoff time..

Heck, if we can add a starter that pushes Lack to #4 and Hammel to #5 then count me on board!

once again the opposing pitcher doesn't go past the 5th

Soler and Hendricks plus a quality player in the minors. I doubt they would turn down Ceace

Cease very well might end up being a better pitcher than Gray. His fastball is plus-plus and his Curve is plus. Granted he's likely to be only in A ball soon and who knows with pitchers and injuries but there's no way I'd do that deal because it's not just Cease you're giving up. And there in lies the point. Gray was worth 3.8 fWAR last season. Hendricks was worth 3.4. I'd concede that the gap is probably bigger than that but Cease and Soler difference? No thanks.

There's little guarantee Gray would even help in the playoffs. Kershaw's probably the best pitcher of this generation and maybe one of the best ever and he's repeatedly lost in the playoffs. And ultimately that's the problem with this sort of thinking. The playoffs are flukey and in the regular season going from Hendricks to Gray adds marginal wins to what's likely a 100 win team already. I'd honestly rather they just develop their own players because if Cease gets some feel for his change up he's easily a top 25 prospect in the next year or so. His stuff is legitimately that good.

That my hope come July..

The Cubs will be able to trade for one of the top available starter..

Either Hendricks or Hammel could move to the bullpen

Yep.. Why I was never really excited about Lackey

Everyone worried about upgrading over Hammel or Hendricks at the 4/5 slot, you should be concerned about the 3 starter

Well, there's your bad inning from Lack. Cubs need shut this down and lay some wood now!

Well, I'm not disagreeing with you, but keep in mind that if Lack does get this loss, he's still 3-1 and on a frugal contract. Still a decent signing in my eyes, but hey, if we can push him to #4, as I said, all the better.

Cincy just hitting the ball tonight. You can't sweep every series.

Yep... So far Lackey given us 2 good starts and 2 bad ones

Got a feeling we will be seeing more bad ones then good from him overall..
6 or less innings with 4 or more runs

This one over, Maddon picked the wrong reliever to get that 3rd out today

Managing is not an exact science. Cahill has been pretty decent but sometimes shit happens.
