IST: Cubs vs. Cardinals

So, in case anyone didnt read, the Cubs plan for Montero to catch Arrieta. Ross to catch Lester and Contreras to get the bulk of the starts for the other 3 going forward in the season. He is catching again tonight. Here is the lineup.

I'm not complaining. He all the tools needed to be a all star. Add too it his energy is off the charts. Dude is intense out there.

Not sure how I feel about that. I guess Hammel and Lackey are enough vets to be fine with him. But him and Hendricks aren't the most experienced guys together. Maybe Hendricks starts will be match up based with him and Montero splitting time.

I find it interesting that they are putting Almora in front of the pitcher. It's almost like they are begging him to learn how to look for his pitch and take walks, since he is likely not going to see a lot of good pitches hitting in front of the pitcher.

I think something is wrong with Montero....just doesn't look the same since coming back from his injury. Maybe he can't pull the heavy load of games anymore.

Why cut him? I mean you're not promoting anyone to the 40 man and for all they know Conception and others could get hurt. I get he's not great and all that but they have no reason to cut him. You cut him when you have something to replace him with.

I mean that's fine but you don't actually cut him until you've replaced him. So, unless they are ready to use Matusz or someone as their lefty reliever on the 40 man there's no reason. You're paying him anyways so until that point there's no reason to cut him.
