Is there some reason Maddon skipped Hendricks' start? Last 6 were Hendricks, Hammel, Lester, Lackey, Arreita, Hammel and then tonight Lester is starting. Schedule has him starting tomorrow in Pit but that is kind of odd. I suppose it could be setting up the playoff rotation but for a guy in the cy young race making him go 6 starts really cuts into his innings chances.

He said he is manipulating lineups and will have a bullpen game next week. This also lines up Hendricks to start game 2

Suppose that makes sense. Wondering if the bullpen game is to set up Arrieta/Lackey as right now they are set up Lester, Hendricks, Lackey, Arreita.

He supposed to have a bullpen game Tuesday and he got Hendricks pitching the final game next Sunday
So, he probably going to pitch game 2 on Saturday

I'm sure it more difficult then we think
But
Damn I wish Rizzo would try and push bunts down third, especially with 2 outs and a runner on third

Defense just giving you an easy run opportunity there

Interestingly, coming into tonight both Lester and Hendricks have a 1.46 ERA in the second half with VERY similar numbers. Both pitched 80.1 IP. Lester has 8.51 k/9 to Hendricks 8.40. Lester has 2.24 bb/9 to Hendricks 1.79.

I know there has been a lot of metric talks about the Cubs defense, but let me give an eye test. I watch a lot of ball games that I see ball hit to IF and I assume its a DP. A good amount of times it is not because the turn was slow or the throws were off. This Cubs team is so good at it that its like I believe all teams should be that good. The exchanges and arms are around the IF are incredible. We are absolutely spoiled watching them play D.

Well Baez at 3B is basically having a second good defensive SS on the field when there's only like 10-15 above average SS in the league. And Zobrist isn't terrible either.

This team has spoiled us in a lot of ways the last 2 years

Something us long time fans aren't used too?

Hopefully they got that one special thing to give us all this year that we've been waiting forever for

Just curious what our third base coach is doing these days....he sure as hell is not paying attention to the base runners.

That was on Contreras. Once Baez was able to get to 3B, Russell making the out at Home Plate was logical.

I have never seen that before. I mean Ross is that loved.
It's unbelievable! you'd think that guy has been with the Cubs 15 years!

He is for sure going to be on the playoff roster, right?
