Theo must have ordered Joe to keep Tony leading off.

Maddon decision but Theo backed it according to Theo on Cubs.com.

Interesting. It was after Theo's interview and he quoted the lead off ineptness this season. They are a league worst.

That is why I have been on Tony leading off for a while. It is much easier to find a power bat in this age of HR hitters dominating the scene. But a hitter that knows the strike zone and will battle at the plate is a lost art.

Theo is complaining we don't have a leadoff hitter for the last 3 years and who's fault is that? THEO'S!!

Meh. They could do a few things.

I'm down with Rizzo leading off.

Boras just spoutted off on Nick's pay day bull shit and no discounts for the Cubs. So you might as well forget him.

That said Bryant should make 16M. Might as well sit on him then.

But with Rizzo leading off they 'need' to replace him. Schwarber and his .230 BA is a inning killer. Heyward doesn't scare anyone.

Baez and Nico are going to be set up the middle.

So the weak link is replacing Nick in the OF and they will need a LH bat to balance. Happ is another meh option. Schwarber, Happ and Heyward in the same line up is a inning killer.

So the outside the box method adds a SH but really doesn't solve the missing part. And Almora is not that guy.

So IDK honestly what they will do. Maybe it is better to just sign a low-ball guy and target a TOR.
This weekend ‘s games aside, I can promise you our next manager won’t put a home run hitting, good rbi guy who is literally the worst baserunner and slowpoke ever in the leadoff spot.

Magic Johnson once played center out of desperation. They didn’t make him a center afterward.

Going into next year as is they need to replace Nick. I really doubt that Theo will over pay on a limited D RF.

So that said they have a few options.

1. Go conservative and start Nico in AAA and Run Russell and Almora out there. Rest status que.

(I expect a hell no to this one)

2. Stay internal but push out Happ in CF or RF and move Nico to 2B.

(I expect another hell no)

3. Move Bryant to RF and Baez to 3B with Russell and Nico up the middle.

(This one is lukewarm at best)

4. Put Nico in CF and status Que.

(Lukewarm again)

5. Baez and Nico up the middle Bryant at 3B and sign a F/A for the OF.

(I'm pretty sure the base would love this but the rotation needs a upgrade more)

6. Trade from depth. Chatwood, Russell, Happ and Almora. Get a OF option for RF and use that resource towards a #2 SP.

(Best option)

You just posted that next season you want Rizzo batting leadoff.

I think you have forfeited any right to insult anyone’s intelligence.

“Maybe Gretzky should play goalie.”
