Whoever the hitting coach is on this team, he should be launched tomorrow. Someone needs to work with these young hitters on strike zone recognition. I'm so damn sick and tired of hitters looking at pitches right down main street and flailing widely at pitches way out of the zone. Sometimes it looks like they're just gonna swing no matter where the pitch is. Someone who can hit needs to work with them...maybe someone named Manny?
Mallee.

And if you kept up with smart moves this isn't one of them and is a managerial error
False. As anemic as the offense is right now with Sale on the mound, that run mattered. That's why you play the IF in.

Arrieta got snubbed

I said this another thread. Its not that he got snubbed but no one even said a word about it. They said Clay Buchholz got snubbed and you never heard one word from anyone in the media over Arrieta.

I think Fowler just about killed his chances of returning next year..

I was eyeballing Venable with Kazmir

You don't pay a guy 9 mil per to suck vs RH pitching. That is 100% dumb.

I kinda get it. He was not dominate early and has gotten into a hot streak. If he was a 13 game winner right now he would have forced it. To be honest he needs to push 16+ wins to get respect. Most see it as Lester as the ace still when in reality Arrieta is the staff ace.

[emoji38] you are great at the illogical arguments. Thankfully you don't teach strategy to the youth. Truth
There's nothing illogical about the argument. I have been pulling my IF in more, too, in earlier innings. Then again, I am coaching. What are you doing? Armchair quarterbacking with zero game knowledge. Truth

Oh, and, 670 was talking about this and it was completely logical to them. Keep yourself in the dark all you want. Your comment about my "dishonest" post is ridiculous. Truth

You make some good comments and you also make the worst comments on the site.

This is no different.

I pull my infield in so I am right and you are wrong. Insightful.

You run the playbook of illogical debate tactics. Nice job!

670 talked about how the play was wrong. The announcers did it during the game as well. Oh well, don't let that distract you. I don't coach baseball so you can't be corrected.

You are incapable of honesty. You are a 100% sellout.

Didn't realize Shields owed 20+ mil for next 3 yrs. ..
Doubt cubs trade players and spend that money on him
when there others theyd prefer at that price. ..

He would cost less than Hamels or a F/A next year. They could bind him and Venable together. That would fill the Cubs needs list this year. It would cost Baez and Edwards in talent. Or equal to. Neither have added to this team. Edwards most likely ends up in the pen. Baez would push Bryant to the OF. That is moving shakey 3B D to questionable OF D.

For a TOR that is what you pay. You would be looking at Shields, Arreta, Lester, Hammel, Hendricks rotation. That alone should push them into the play offs.

Looking at beyond this season though...

He going to be 34 next year, production will be declining over next 3 years at that price. ...

Hamels, who my no.1 choice is 3 years younger with 4 yrs of control. ...

David price who might be their choice is 4 yrs younger and will just cost money not players...

Seeing they may look to move Kimbrel too...
I can actually see Venable and Kimbrel as an option

Cool. I'm just like everybody else.
This is no different.
Whatever you say, fire breathing dragon man.
I pull my infield in so I am right and you are wrong. Insightful.
I told you why the IF was in. Maddon isn't the only one doing it.
You run the playbook of illogical debate tactics. Nice job!
Yeah. Your post suggesting I lacked integrity was a solid debate tactic.
670 talked about how the play was wrong.
When I was listening, they agreed with it. Then again, that was yesterday, after they had time to digest a real baseball move.
The announcers did it during the game as well.
There's a reason the announcers are in the booth and Maddon is making millions as one of the brightest managers in the game. I seem to recall an announcer casing on Castro for the ground causing a bad hop. Brilliant.
Oh well, don't let that distract you.
Your trolling attempts are distracting. I don't know why I get caught up in them.
I don't coach baseball so you can't be corrected.
But you can correct Maddon for some reason. Bad. Very bad.
You are incapable of honesty.
IOW, you have no argument, so you throw this personal attack here.
You are a 100% sellout.
Yep. Since I won this debate with half my brain tied behind my back, I'm going to Fanny's Burgers.

Hamels will cost 2x what Shields will cost in talent.

Price will be just that. $$$.

We are talking 200-300 mil cash.

Now that is scary if he blows a tire owing him 30 mil per on avg.

Seeing how they already bid on him they already signaled that they would have wanted him. Shields took the closer to home offer. But seeing how these are 2 teams and 1 is good and the other sucks well it is a easy choice to want to move.

Pads perspective they need a legit SS. If Edwards pans out then fine. We saw already with Cashner the risks you take with questionable durability arms. Cash has never lived up to his potential.

Now the 33 argument. He is proven. And he has been proven to eat innings while pitching quality games. I trust him more that any "youth" upcoming. It is a good investment that will not tax the team long term when you want to start to think on retaining Bryant etc.

Hamels younger and better, hed be worth it for next 4 yrs

Price is an Ace, hed be worth 25+ per
(Any pitcher liable to blow an arm ) wheather they cost 20 or 25 per. not really much of difference. ..

Cubs offered Shields 2 yrs and a vesting option for 3rd at about 18.5 per i believe in January ...

doubt their willing to now give him 21 per for next 3 guaranteed, plus now give up players to get him. ..

Just think cubs will wait til off season to get another TOR guy, for this year they probably get a reasonable Middle guy...

I watched my son's (14 year olds) baseball game recently.

Bases loaded. Runner on first gets hit with the batted ball.

Ump allows runner on third to score, and runner on second goes to third. I told the friend I was with the call was wrong.

Not ONE of the 4 coaches or two umps knew the rule.

So, those guys who like to tell us "they coach baseball", so they know more than those of us who don't? They're full of shit.

Just sayin'.

So you watched a house league game with daddy coaches and you equate that to college showcase ball? LOL.
