Yea there's a lot to this lawsuit, again I think it's too little too late and I've kind of accepted that our name is probably going away but I hope the NCAA gets really dragged through the mud on this. What's really funny and ironic about the lawsuit is how the very people the NCAA is trying to protect from discrimination and hostility is now suing them for hostility and discriminatiojn.

Even if this battle is lost I agree with you that the NCAA can not put this to bed and it continues to haunt them. I am glad the fire is still burning.

Next I want the Florida State Seminoles, The Fighting Irish, and Hell even the Miami Hurricane's as it's insensitive to anyone who has been through a tragedy like Katrina. While their at it, **** of with the Trojans, I'm appalled by the name. And they might as well go after the Hoosiers, as I find that highly offensive towards Native Indianains... (see what I did there?) and while we're at it, let's kill my beloved Boilermakers as that's offensive to hard working stiffs everywhere!

Ohh... You mean the NCAA makes way too much money off the Seminoles Logo and mascots to kill them, ok, then they aren't offensive. You mean... Notre Dame has better Lawyers and More Money that they would lose the fight to to remove their mascot? Ohh... ok it's not offensive then.

So after one month without a nickname and logo we're back to what fits best.

Statement from school president and uber douchbag Robert Kelley:

In keeping with state law and the direction of North Dakota State Board of Higher Education President Grant Shaft, the University of North Dakota has resumed the use of the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo for our athletic teams. I want to reaffirm our respect for the laws of the state and the processes guaranteed under the North Dakota Constitution.

So why the db comment on the school president. What am I missing here?

Comment doesn't make him the douchebag, but I honestly don't know anybody that likes the guy. If you knew some of the things I know about the guy, you'd think he's a douchbag too. He will be fired over this nickname fiasco eventually, one way or the other

So he is the cause of the issue?

The instigator?

Or just handled the issue in a db manner?

Basically a mix between the 2nd and 3rd question there. He's never publically said he is anti-nickname but it's pretty widely accepted that that's his stance. Basically the guy's a perfect example of a two face, he says one thing in the press about the name and logo and how he's just doing what is in the best interest of the school, however I've seen some of his emails to various people throughout the NCAA and our athletic conferences.

The biggest thing that pisses me off about him is how he has allowed the NCAA, the press, and the general public label our school and student body as "hostile and abusive" by not ever publically defending our school when the NCAA uses that term against us, that bothers me a great deal. I am willing to bet that there is not another school out there that offers as much as we do to the Native American people, and the respect they get up here is unparalled to any other place I've been. I go to hawks games when I go home and see people wearing war paint and head dresses and the more I've been up here I've realized that those type of things are extremely demeaning towards Native Americans, the war paint, and especially the head dress are things that are very symbolic in their culture and they should be earned and not taken lightly. The people up here know that, and as such I've never once observed any show of disrespect toward the Sioux people at any sporting event I've been to up here.

So if they keep the name does the NCAA kick them out?

Highly doubtful, probably will put them back on the sanctions list which means no hosting NCAA playoff games, can't wear any jerseys with the name and logo in postseason play, and the NCAA will discourage schools from scheduling non-conference games with the athletic teams. Theoretically they could kick us out but their sanctions will likely be very light because the school is being forced by the law to keep the name, it's not like we're just telling the NCAA to go **** themselves (as much as I'd like to send that message)

So UND doesn't have FSU money... imagine that. I know it's petty but that would have been my first argument if I was UND. I would have drug every other existing mascot in starting with FSU and Notre Dame. Drug them into the shit and not let them out. Make them pay enough money not just for them to get out of the spotlight but to put the issue to bed.

I'm convinced this will never go away... I've been here 4 years and we've retired the name twice in that time frame and reinstated it twice. The SBoHE is going to really piss off some people with the lawsuit, many people feel as though their trying to undermine the petition process which isn't cool.

But why shouldn't the State Board do so?

They are, after all, smarter then everyone else and certainly know what is better then the average voting citizen, yeah eh? (sarcasm)
