I see nothing wrong with this trade if it somehow moves people back to more natural positions. Grit, which is what we need apparently, is a funny thing. It's not something that can actually be tracked and it's a nice scape goat for when things are going wrong. If we had 10 more wins no one would be discussing grit and this would be a perfect trade somehow. I think toughness is one thing, but getting people back to their natural positions and solidifying their roles will go a long way to adding team "grit" on it's own. There are people on this team who can be those "gritty" players we know and love, but we were asking them to fill other roles at the same time. If the kid plays center with any relative success this is a great move for now. Skille needed a change of scenery and I have no doubt he will prosper much better being back with Tallon again on a team where he's not buried by two of the top RWs int he league. We gave a guy up who was not going to break the top two lines except due to injury, an 1st rounder who didn't pan out, and another guy no one is even talking about. The only downside is that he looks to be about double the cap hit right now, which may make it harder to do future trades. But no matter how you slice it we definitely needed several things, whether this year or next. Better bottom line d. Better center depth, depth at goaltending, and "grit". We addressed 2 of those 4 things and one of them isn't even really a thing, it's just a characteristic. Even if the kid doesn't play center, he'll be on the on a top line which will put sharpie permanently at center with an upgrade at LW which will make it not as hard to have him at center. You get a guy who helps solidify the top two lines (which we have been hearing lately seem to be the problem this year, whether we believe it or not, (obviously we need more assists)) and very exciting goaltending depth, for Jack Skille basically. What's not to like about this trade for this year or next and beyond. Skille WILL be very good in Florida, he wasn't going to happen here. I've been saying it for a long time now. Seldom you see a trade like this where everyone wins. If we can still make one more trade for D. This trade looks even better.

In his first two years Frolic had 42 goals, Kane had 46. The difference is assists... maybe we should put Kane at Center.

(YES I KNOW YEAR 3 Kane had 30 goals.... I'm not really comparing the two, just stating that he's had two really good years and this year hasn't been as good, but the team has been a suckfest as well.)

The best part of the thread is the "knowledgable" Blackhawks fans that are wandering over there from the Hawks Officials. Pure genius.

Hey, I just posted there dammit!!!!

Hey, I just posted there dammit!!!!

Yeah I saw that haha, I hadn't even made it through the first page yet. I like Skille, and I think if utilized properly there he will have himself a nice career. I still think the Hawks did get the better of the deal though.

I was going to also, but I don't have an account there anymore with fear I may wander over to the O's and upset myself.

It really sounds on the Hawks side of things, theyre convinced he can play center. I imagine, he wont be out there for DZone faceoffs, but it will be interesting to see him on a line with fellow countrymen - Hossa/Kopecky

I think center iceman are hard to come by, and if this kid pans out...they just landed a soon-to be 23yr old thats potted 20g his first 2 seasons. The Hawks will also gain a first line sniper/LW in Sharp...if Frolik can play center.

RK...you mentioned on another post that Brouwer isnt physical (I think thats what I read)...I disagree. 177 hits so far this year? He's 2nd in the NHL for LW in hits, 5th in all the NHL. Bickell's 125 isnt bad (however, I agree that I dont think he's as physical as he should/can be...but he is a rookie).

I think if Scooter can get a physical Dman they team "toughness" will pick up. Currently, the Hawks are 275K under the cap after this move...which would "prorate" to get a Dman that makes 800K on the year. I'm not sure someone in that "range" can help them. They'd have to make a few more roster moves...maybe move Hendry in the deal would allow them a guy making 1.3mil on the year...so Hendry + pick ...(send down either Boynton/Johnson could bring in a 1.8mil guy....2.3mil if they send down both).

You all laugh, but if you look closely at that board, the reactions, banter and image could be looked at the same way on as on here.

I was more playing on Consistent. He is not consistent. Nor is Bickell.

I specifically said when Brouwer is physical his game is huge to this team. When he's not he's invisible. I never said he wasn't physical.

I didnt read the entire thread...just saw where you said this...

Softest D corp in the league? Try the softest fucking TEAM in the league. Other than Seabrook who else on this team plays physical?

Bickell.... Nope

Brouwer... Nope

Scott..... Nope and he's the fucking enforcer! He pulls UP instead of hitting players when he's iced that is.

There is not ONE player on this team that plays physical. Remove Seabrook and they are all a bunch of PUSSIES!

I dont think they're a bunch of pussies on the team. I think Brouwer is pretty physical...Bickell is more inconsistant but physical. I think Toews, Dowell, Kopecky all go to traffic/physical areas and can be called physical players. But...they do lack consistancy. Maybe adding a guy like Jarko (not Jako!) Ruutu....or Neil and it can "rub off" (not rub ONE off like TCD) and then it'll become more of a "team" thing.

And I couldnt agree more when it comes to the Dgroup not being physical. I know I pointed out that Seabrook had more hits than the rest combined.

I think thats the big reason that Boynton does get more time than what Hendry or Cullimore did, is that fact he is 2nd in the Dgroup in hits and someone/anyone back there needs to be tougher/grittier than only Seabrook.

Hopefully Scooter can find him.

The big problem is, there are soo many teams still in the hunt and so few sellers - I'm sure everyone wants/needs the same thing.

Either a puck moving Dman or a physical Dman(In the Hawks case)...and there are only so many available

I was looking at the top 30 Dmen in the league (based on hits)....and not sure who would be available on that list without trading much.

Pekham - Edm - 145hits - 550K

Methot - CLB - 115hits - 1mil

Komisarek...blah

White - NJD - 89hits - 3mil (pass)

The leader...Luke Schenn (164)...I dont think TOR would move...unless Seabrook (Sharp, whoever) is involved.

Guess I should have been more clear. I was specifically pointing out those players that should be physical every game, and every shift.

In order for Brouwer to be successful he needs to bring it every shift. He does not. Bickell appears to have more skill than Brouwer but he too must bring the "grit" game.

You need your GRIT players to do just exactly that now. They are filling shoes of players who were very gritty. If that makes sense.

I wasn't trying to throw them under the bus but I 100% agree with Q on this. Which is why Brouwer moves around so much. Because he lacks the consistency.

Seabrook, is ALWAYS consistent when it comes to physicality. There is NO reason Bickell and Brouwer aren't as well. That physicality or lack there of has cost us MANY games this year.
