Rangers drafted him early I believe... sad he didn't pan out.

Jessiman is the only first round player picked in 2003 who has never played a game at the NHL level. I think he was taken #9 overall by the Rangers. I still remember the commentators after he was selected. The quote was "this guy is known for his size. His nickname is 'Huge Specimen'. But they never followed that up with anything about how skilled he was (or wasn't). Both former Rangers 1st round busts (Jessiman and Al Montoya) were traded today.

Nobody has mentioned locker room chemistry as a reason for the trade. Addition by subtraction? Was Skille well liked by the group? When someone's first commment after being traded is "I don't see myself as a fourth line player", that tells me he didn't have the team first mentality one looks for.

A great tweet I saw on Skille's quote was someone who said "I didn't know teams carried 5 lines". LOL, classic.

Well what else are they going to say? They would never admit if someone was a locker room cancer unless it was extreme to the point of Avery in Dallas.

This deal could be a very good one for the Hawks but it is clear they are looking towards the future with this move -- that doesn't make it a bad deal it is just not something I expected.

I hope this there is more on the way, for this year.

Many were asking what "physical" players are available, if I were Stan I would be looking at guys like Jamie Benn, Chris Neil, Jarkko Ruutu, Paul Gaustad, Mike Grier, Brian Rolston... Sabres and Sens will be sellers, Benn is rumored to be traded from Dallas. These are all good physical players that seem to be available.

I would love to see a Chris Neil type player right now. Maybe before the deadline something like that will be done. Like you said Ton the Hawks may not be done here.

Probably because there was none? You should ask his best bud on the team Toews what he thinks.

Where is this locker room cancer coming from?

<edit>

I posted a great picture of Toews, Skille, Stahlberg and Kane but I probably shouldn't so I'll just say they were all very good friends. Locker room Cancer?

This was Stan picking up an asset and trading one that someone else wanted. There aren't that many assets available on the Hawks that other teams want. 2 maybe 3?

We aren't getting anything for Boynton.

And Tony the Sabres want Seabrook, which I'm guessing is not for sale, so you can just forget about them.

Well, I don't see him as a fourth line player either. Skille was never given a fair chance here, and he never would have been given one. I'm actually happy for him, because he'll get the minutes he needs in Florida. Then we can really see if he's a bust or not. I expect he'll have a pretty decent career. Obviously Florida thinks pretty highly of him, for what we got in return.

I wasn't confirming he was a locker room cancer or agreeing, just saying if someone was a cancer they wouldn't admit it. I'm sure Jack was well liked in the locker room.

I'm not upset with trading Jack, we got a good return for him. I just don't see this as a move that helps the team this year -- which is why I am a bit confused. It seems more like a "selling" mentality, even though it seems like we got the better end of the deal. The only reason I say that is, like I said, because this is not a move for this year.

That said, I hope we do make a deal for this year. The Sabres may want Seabrook, but they are crazy if they think they can land him if they just gave up Gaustad. They are sellers, they'll probably take some prospects and young guys for a player like that. Either way, there are plenty of capable physical players that are available -- many I mentioned can probably had for very little, other than Benn.

We still have Stalberg that we could try and flip for some grit. We are also loaded with prospects on defense, that we could use to sweeten a deal. I don't think the Hawks are done, either. I'm just going to wait and see how Frolik plays with this team, and what other moves we make, before passing any judgement. Even if Frolik is a flop, the goalie prospect is huge. We literally have nothing in the system as far as goalies are concerned. It's obvious what this team needs to pretty much everyone, but that also means that other teams know what kind of players we are desperate for.

Good points Pez all through this thread. Can't say I disagree with anything you have said.

And lets not forget this is a marking trade too. Skille isn't a Bowman era pick and Frolik isn't a Tallon guy. Remember Tallon liked to build his team with his players and I assume Bowman likes this too. Most G.M.s will do these sort of deals. It's not as if either team just traded franchise players either here. In the grand scheme of things it's not a major trade. Def could be a beneficial one down the road for either or both teams though. There is nothing wrong with that. Keep those wheels greased.

This is a good deal for both sides and it's a good deal for the players involved. These young players will benefit from this.

Salak is the interesting one in this deal though. For sure.

We'll take Tyler Myers off their hands if they want Seabs.

A blog at hockeybuzz implied it wasn't a very popular move for Panther fans.

I was listening to the EDM feed yesterday (because I am tired of Pat and Eddie, yeah I said it) and they were reporting that FLA couldnt sign Salak but did not provide details. Perhaps more more hardcore hockey nerds know something about that?

As I recall, when the Devils put him on waivers in December I mentioned he might not be a bad pick-up for the Hawks....and a lot of people shit on me for it.

I think this was a good trade for both teams. I had the opportunity to see Frolik play against the Caps, he will pan out, trust me. Speed, and great hands/hockey sense, and that is where I think Skille lacked, hockey sense. Everything I have read about Salak suggests him to be the second coming as far as netminders go.

Here's a suggestion as far as D goes, the Hawks should try stealing Carlson away from DC..he is going to be a perennial Norris canidate.

Yea I was just pointing out that was NOT a factor for those "grasping" at a reason for this trade, other than it benefited both teams. The Hawks don't have a lot that's actually "AVAILABLE" for other teams right now. And that said without giving something thats UNAVAILABLE they don't have much Cap Space to add.

With Buffalo I was more suggesting they won't deal without getting what they want. I do not beleive Seabrook is available.

It definitely would be nice to have someone who is good at center....Frolik is not.

Frolik is definitely a top 6, and unless he is here to fill in the gaps with Hossa's injuries, Frolik is going to push either Kopecky and Brouwer down. My guess would be Kopecky. So this might move Sharp back to wing, by moving Bolland to 2nd line center and moving Kopecky to 3rd line center (or playing wing for Johnson).

I agree that this most likely benefited both teams. Frolik was struggling, and perhaps not being the guy will help...and he gets a boost in skill around him. Salak is a depth move and a needed one. Skille just was not going to be top 6 on this team as it is right now, he will get that chance with Florida. Pacan is a nice depth move for Florida. They are going to have quite a few nice guys coming up in 2 years.

Tallon clearly thinks highly of Skille. as said before I think he does need a change of scenery. Not very excited about Frolik though. But if this goalie's the real deal good trade.
