I never said he implied pentatonic was boring. YOU were the one who said his style bothers you because it's easy to understand, then went on to clarify that he plays pentatonic (which is pretty fucking obvious considering he's a blues based player).

yup..

1..It is easy to understand..

2..He plays pentatonic...

Whats your beef?

I don't have beef, I just think it's odd that you say a particular blues based guitar player's style bothers you because he plays in a blues scale.

Gee, thanks for the info, BB. I've been playing guitar since I was 13 and knew that scale at 13 and a half. Not only is it simple, it's the root of blues based lead guitar, and it's a scale that every blues player on the planet uses. My question is why SRV's use of it, in particular, bothers you. Do all blues players bother you? You know Jimmy Page uses pentatonic scales too, right?

Ive answered question 1 a couple times for you

And as for #2, I play blues myself.. So NO..all blues players dont bother me (some do)..In fact, SRV overall doesnt bother me...But the fact that his rifs are so easy to pick up does.
If I go to hear a player, even a blues player, Id like to see and hear something that I havent done myself. Something that I can go back home and try..That never happened with SRV

Well that's good, 'cos there's a tribute band playing in Asheville next week. I figured you might want to go.

Maybe if SRV played something like this, he might have been more interesting?

I apologize if I've offended anyone's musical sensibilities by saying I find SRV to be kinda boring. I guess I just feel like with pretty much every solo of his I know exactly how he's gonna play it, anticipating where he's gonna go. Also, just like with Jazz improvisation there is something to be said for the notes a musician DOESN'T play. I feel that SRV kinda just shreds through his progressions and doesn't follow that line of thought. When you hear him dual with more thoughtful guitarists you might understand where I'm coming from. He was a great guitarist but I didn't really view him as much of an artist, where he'd try to challenge himself and his listeners. THat's fine, but it's kinda boring to me.

I'm digging this.

I appreciate SRV, but have never listened to him other than on TV or radio, and the odd YT vid. Would have gone to see live, but I will likely never own an album or mp3 of his.
