Maybe if SRV played something like this, he might have been more interesting?

12-bass-guitar-mandolin-banjo-violin-5-neck.jpg

Needs a keytar with a vocoder.

I apologize if I've offended anyone's musical sensibilities by saying I find SRV to be kinda boring. I guess I just feel like with pretty much every solo of his I know exactly how he's gonna play it, anticipating where he's gonna go. Also, just like with Jazz improvisation there is something to be said for the notes a musician DOESN'T play. I feel that SRV kinda just shreds through his progressions and doesn't follow that line of thought. When you hear him dual with more thoughtful guitarists you might understand where I'm coming from. He was a great guitarist but I didn't really view him as much of an artist, where he'd try to challenge himself and his listeners. THat's fine, but it's kinda boring to me.

Meh. Just opinions.

If the tempo of his songs were all the same, you could mix up the solos, and never know it

One thing I learned a long time ago was that sometimes its not what ya play, but what ya dont play. A good musician knows when to take a rest in a solo. Guys like BB King play simple little rifs and then take a rest. Very "tasty"

Duke Ellington would tell all his young band members.." Dont show me everything you know in 1 song"

Django Reinhart
George Barnes for my favorite solo of all time.."Lipstick On Your Collar" A simple song by Connie Francis with a killer solo and intro

James Burton
Scotty Moore
Mark Knopfler
Joe Bonnamassa
I even like some Clapton

Robert Johnson played some really complicated stuff too

Good list. It's incomplete but a nice start. What do you think of whoever that guy is from ZZ Top? I love how he grooves.

Deguello was one of the first albums I ever bought as a new release. For me, the last of their albums that I actually like.

Zeppelin was my favorite band when I was in high school. Never got to see Jimmy Page live.

Best I've seen live was Rory Gallagher.

Five runners up: Steve Vai, Robin Trower, Pete Townshend, Ritchie Blackmore, Frank Zappa.

Wow, half of the top six I've seen are dead. So I guess I'm old as ****.

Dont get me wrong guys..He is a great guitarist..Its just that after 3 songs you say.."OK, what else can ya do"? Like a 1 trick pony. There is no variation in his playing..Its 100 mph constantly

Next door in Biltmore Forest ( they might have an Asheville mailing address though)...People from Asheville couldnt afford to live in Biltmore Forest..Sans a few of the old money peeps..Believe it or not, Asheville has an old money section next to the Grove Park Inn..Kind of like Winnetka. But theyre getting old and dying off...The mansion has its own security force etc..No dullards are getting in that place...lol They have a summer concert series every year

Its kind of like saying Brookfield Zoo is in Chicago etc
