Won't going off for 3 days make it tough to get back into keto again, and then getting the body back into keto take 3 days?
We'll find out. I think it will be two super low carb days and I'll be back.

No truth in any of that.

“Pig out” wasn’t meant literally. But reducing intake will cause your metabolism to slow and you will plateau.

You can’t fast too frequently.

I suppose it's probably different for everyone but shouldn't IF get you back into Keto the quickest?

On a side note I was invited to a beer fest with some friends but very reluctantly passed because going on 2 weeks keto for me and don't want to have to start over.

I don't think an isolated "pig out" is going to hurt you in the long run, but it's not gonna help ya either.

More about the "Going off will "restart" the metabolism after it slows to adjust for reduced caloric intake." The Biggest Loser study showed it's not as easy to "restart" a broken metabolism as people would like to think. 6 years after losing the weight on the show all contestants were still experiencing a slower metabolism. Increasing calories not only doesn't repair it but leads to fat gain because the metabolism has been slowed greatly and continues to slow for a very long time.

However, when on a keto diet, you will not break your metabolism even when in severe caloric restriction. A study showed when people were put on an extreme diet, 600-800 calories, while in ketosis and maintaining a keto diet there was no significant slowdown of the metabolism. They contributed this to the fact that keto does not burn sugar so the body is not attempting to take protein from muscles to use as sugar. It's mostly all fat that is lost when on keto and the muscles are spared. Also, when using fat for fuel, the body can quickly resort to taking that fat from your stored fat even when no food is coming in. The reason the metabolism is greatly slowed on the standard diet is because you are dependent on sugar coming in to use as fuel. With less sugar coming in, the body has to make it last longer and does this by slowing down metabolism. The standard diet also encourages your body to get sugar from wherever it can and that's why it goes to your muscles and takes it from there.

Fasting is not bad for the metabolism. It, in fact, is the one thing known to be able to repair it. It does this by re-balancing hormones and making the body rely more on resorting to using fat as energy when sugar is not there. You essentially teach it to be more hybrid with its energy sources.

I have a ribeye steak in the fridge.

Spinach, broccoli, salad etc. All green leaf veggies low in carbs and you can add real butter to them to add in the fats. With salad, you want to avoid most of the store bought salad dressing cause a lot of it tends to be low fat and higher in carbs. Usually uses bad oil like canola as well. Could still find something more doable if you look enough. Primal Kitchen brand dressing is a popular go to or just stick with Olive oil and Vinegar as the dressing.

If you want to go the lazy route, most stores sell it in spaghetti form already.

I wouldn’t “cheat” until at least 6 weeks in. Your body will be able to go back in ketosis easier without issues

Broccoli steamed. Salt, pepper, butter, and cheese of your choice. I would tell you to make broccoli au gratin but I think that will do for you. Great fiber, nice and fattier with butter and cheese. Perfect keto side with a nice medium rare to medium ribeye.

While this is true, there are a couple proven tips to speed up getting back into ketosis. Fasting, of course, and coffee. No quicker way to exhaust sugar supplies than by fasting and coffee/caffeine is known to mobilize fats. This is why caffeine is used in supplements advertised to burn fat. Also, PDE (phosphodiesterase) inhibits the burning of fat in the body but caffeine inhibits PDE and thus negates it. The polyphenols in coffee are also known to both aid in burning fat and boosting the effects of autoph.agy. The video I last posted pointed to a study that took a group of people, put them on a 12 hour fast and then gave them a breakfast (non-keto). Some had no coffee with that breakfast, others had 1.5 cups coffee and others had 3. Those who had more coffee also ended up with a higher level of ketones after that breakfast.

Oh shit, the nice thing about steak is that the classic and best side is keto by default. Asparagus and Hollandaise my dude! (or if you're being lazy just grill off some asparagus and throw some butter on that shit).

Broccoli is my favorite veg and steaming it is fine, but you should roast that shit in the oven. It's a MILLION times better:

Broccoli (use the fresh stuff, **** frozen) chopped
Olive Oil
Salt
Pepper
Red Pepper Flakes
Garlic Powder

Preheat oven to 400. Whisk olive oil, salt, pepper, red pepper, garlic powder in a large bowl. Throw broccoli in bowl and coat with the mixture well. Stick that shit on a cookie shit and toss it in the oven for 10 mins (more or less depending how you like your veg, I DESPISE over cooked veg so ymmv).

And boom, salty, garlic-y, pepper-y, roast-y broccoli that has actual flavor and isn't some weak, soft ass steamed mush. It's the fucking tits!

Even on keto, the better shape you get in, the harder it becomes to lose fat. Someone that is at 30% body fat that loses 2 lbs of fat a week on keto, will not continue to lose 2 lbs of body fat a week in a linear progression all the way until they are 3% body fat and contestant ready. Point is, everyone has to return their calories to maintenance otherwise their metabolism will eventually slow. You want this too for obvious reasons, i.e. continuing to live. What's hard though is staying in maintenance when you are out of the diet zone. It's easy to increase the calories too much and yo yo back to above and forth. True for all diets.

Broccoli sucks once you have eaten broccolini. They have it with crushed garlic at Heinens in the meats section. It's amazing.

I've never had broccolini, will pick some up next time I'm at safeway

It’s sweeter. Also, I roast broccoli as well. Usually, I top with some from park and a squeeze of lemon. I like with a little crunch doe
