I dont know about all that. I think people need to know the scout. Scouts put more emphasis to certain aspects then others. There are scouts who will always value overall tools then polish at certain points in there career. They are some who play it safe and like high floor, low ceiling guys. I, which I am no scout, put more emphasis on stuff and potential over guys I know will be average ML players. Scouts explain their thinking and say what they look for more. People just need to read it more.

As far as Hendricks, my personal opinion is he is a 5ish type of starter. He has to keep pin point control to be effective. He will not get away with mistakes. This is why I try to tell people to temper there expectations. He is doing well so far, but it means very little. Being effective the first go around the league happens more often then people think. Its when players see a pitcher 2 or 3 times is when they start to get a beat on him. A lot more film is giving to the player and they will have tendencies for the pitcher. Could he better? Yea, but I dont think so. I may be wrong. Wont be the first or last time I am wrong, but I have to see him do it when batters have faced him a couple of times. Its why I didnt like the whole Maddux comparison that some people took to heart.

I don't need anyone to tell me to temper my expectations of a prospect. Especially as a fan! As a coach, sure, but as a fan, I'll think what I want. But, having played the game, I assure you, you're right. It's all about adjustments!

To make one LAST point about the Maddux comparison from Sutt, that's exactly what Sutt said he liked about him, that he adjusted well. Specifically his mental approach to pitching. No one said he had the velocity or stuff that Maddux had. Period!

But yes, there will be a lot of smart baseball people looking for these young prospect's weakness'. And yes, they will have to adjust. However, you don't become the best prospects by not adjusting. Baez is a real good example. Rizzo had to adjust. Many thought Rizzo was fading, but he's shown he can adjust. I think we're seeing it with Mendy now.

The bottom line is, telling a loyal Cubs fan, after enduring this rebuild, to not get excited, I think is bush league! I've accepted the rebuild, I chose not to be a ***** the whole way through! The time grows near, and I'm finally seeing signs of what's to come.

I don't need anyone to tell me how to think about this game! I don't need anyone to tell me how to think about a player. NO ONE has any facts EITHER WAY of just how good these guys are gonna be. So I object to opposing fans, and Even some Cubs fans, ruining my excitement after 3 long fuckin years!

You want to bring some respectful debate about a different opinion? I'm with you, and will debate you most likely. But if you want to call me emotional and un intelligent cuz I'm excited to finally see some action......... then you know what you can do.

lol. this is awesomeness! maddux comparisons are spectacular! these posts are why I keep coming back.

I guess since sutcliffe said it you gotta believe right? Im sure he was sober when he said it too!

this is priceless!

There is a difference between saying "Hendricks is as good as Maddux" and "Maddux had success with the same type of pitching that Hendricks has now." Big difference actually. Is it okay if people compare Jose Abreu to players like Albert Pujols when he was in his prime?

I myself have been high on Kyle Hendricks and I think he will be a pretty good pitcher. I wanted him to come up last season. I think he'll be a 2-3 for the Cubs in the future once CJ Edwards finally comes up. It's hard with Arrieta because this is his first good season. I think he'll keep it up but I can't see the future.

no one is saying abreu is pujols. his approach is familar but no one is saying he is. hendricks vs maddux compared to abreu (who is just a fucking machine) vs pujols is a lot different. dont be dumb

Both arguments are dumb.

Hendricks has been great since taking over for Shark/Hammel. Exciting to see another young guy have success on the Cubs

Sample size, but he is sure looking the part of an innings eater. He pitches to contact and has movement on most of his pitches. Not an All-Star, but definitely something that a lot of teams would want, especially with his price tag.

Considering what E-Jax is making, I would take Hendricks and Wada, and still save 10 million per year with 3 times the production. That is "Smart Business 101" right there.

I think the Cubs really will give Jacob Turner a go.

Why not? What do they have to lose?

You don't find "diamonds in the rough" any other way.

I think they also have to, he is out of options and has to play at the major league level now.

He is but they could put him in the bullpen. I dont think that will happen though.

Off topic, but it was nice to see the former Iowa kids playing together today. Valaika, Baez, Alcantara, Hendricks. Wada tomorrow, and Soler soon.

I also think it's a no-brainer to keep Coghlan and Valbuena. They would make the bench very strong, and I think Coghlan has a chance to be a starter.
