Good mention about Coghlan. He's doing a nice job, imho.

While he has light years to go to be anywhere near as successful as Maddux, his style of pitching is very similar. Upper 80s fastball and a sinker that hitters are having a tough time laying off of whether if its a strike or not. Another bonus is he works fast, throws strikes and keeps his pitch count within reason. But the big test will be when he faces teams for a second time...hitters will make adjustments and he may have to do the same. He's been impressive so far but let's see how it plays out before making reservations in Cooperstown.

He will obviously regress eventually but he could still be a staple in the Cubs rotation for years to come

I was wondering the same thing. He executes pitches. Can't ask for more. That said there has to come a point that the league will catch up....we will see.

My post was tongue-in-cheek, mostly due to criticism of people comparing him to Maddux.

Thanks for completely missing that!

If the Cubs do trade for an ace, I think Hendricks could be used as a piece. I hope we don't trade, but it's certainly possible.

Sit on him. They do not have a legit play off game 1 starter. The good teams have a 1 and a 2 that are TOR. Tigers have 3 now.

The bottom line is Hendricks should be a 4 at best on this team right now. The fact he is the 2nd best starter points to the ineptness of the staff.

If this is what Arrieta is(and I'm not entirely convinced he wont regress), he's a legit 1/2 starter. He's been one of the 15 best pitchers in the league this year.

We don't know enough about Hendricks to determine whether he is a 3, 4 or 5 either. It could even be that the second time through the league, they have his number.
