That's why I've never been impressed with Lexus. There's no real innovation to the cars. It's just a Toyota with leather seating. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with toyotas either. They are great cars that are reliable, get great fuel mileage & are relatively cheap to maintain. But, in my opinion, aren't in the same class as mercedes

It's not an opinion it's a FACT and it's not even close.

It's interesting how the quality of cars has changed over time. Used to be that there was a real demarcation line between well built cars and bad ones. The Amercians are typically 5 years behind the rest of the world. But even now something like a Ford Tauras is really a terrific car.

Since they are are built well it's only when you do pointed comparisons that the differences show. I owned 2 BMWs in the 90s and they were
much better than any Audi. Now the tables are turned. BMW never
wins any of the serious comparisons and reviews when compared to Audi.
Are BMWs nice? Yes, but I'm not spending my money on one. My best
friend has a BMW 540 and he is buying one of the newly itroduced 550i
Gran for $90k. Looks great but the interior pales to the Audi A8. There is
nothing in the world I could say to him to have him look at Audi. So, I
dont try to convince him and tell him the Gran is fabulous.

My A5 lease ends next year and I only have 6K miles on it cause I work
out of my house. Thinking of buying it or I might lease an A6

The BMW 3 series has always been the best car in it's segment better
than the Audi A4 and Mercedes C class. I like the new Ford Taurus a lot but it's overpriced IMO, a top loaded Taurus SHO costs about $48K with
that kind of money I would much rather get an Audi A6 or Volvo S60.

If Audi had a car with their TDI motor in it besides the A3 (don't like hatch-backs), it'd be the full package and I'd be all over that.

Speaking of "not spending my money on it", how can you spend so much money on something you barely even use??

(PS, I almost bought an A5 6 months ago, that's a BA car. So pretty.)
Of all the cars I have owned it's easily the best. The fit and finish is flawless. So solid and not a squeek ever. The engine is heaven and the manual transmission is better than the 7 other cars I have had with manuals. I have friends that own Bentley's. Ferrais, one has a 3000 sqft garage to house all his exotics, but the only car that gets my blood going is an Audi. Guess that makes me a fan boy

Les, you ask how I can spend so much money on something I barely use. I also think about it and here is my philosophy: I have worked hard all my life and saved, raised a family, paid my mortage off 15 years ago, sent a kid through college, paid for a wedding, etc. I have no vacation home and dont go on exotic trips. I just one one quality thing in my life just for me. Even if I dont use it much, when I do it's just my reward for what I have done and put up with in the business world. It's my one possession just for me

I wish more cars came with Diesel engines, hybrid technology or both. A Mercedes C-class hybrid with a Diesel engine would kick so much ass

Yeah, I totally get that, but how can you say you wouldn't spend your money on a car like your buddy's so called "overpriced" BMW with that philosophy?

Audi's, BMW's, Mercedes, etc are all luxury cars imo, and are all pretty expensive. At that point, it's hard to call any of them overpriced considering the luxury price tag.

If I were going to spend $90K on a car it would be a A8 or a used R8. Otherwise, I have no interest in spending that kind of money on a car. The others just dont move me

If I were going to spend $90k on a car I hope my kids have me declared "unfit" by a court.

(unless it's got the 1%er dicksuck package, and bulletproofing)

The R8 is soooo badass, but you have to be super rich for a car like that. You just can't drive a car like that as a daily driver.

Actually, many use it as a daily driver. I have test driven one and the car is super comfortable and handes the road well. Very quiet in the cab. Lots of leg and shoulder room. Because of the Quattro system you can drive it in the snow. It's not gittery like a Porche 911 or uncomfortable like a Ferrari. It's the kinda car you can be in 6 hours at a stretch. Look at some of the R8 review videos on you tube like this one. I love this reviewer

I wonder how a new Corvette measures up to an R8? Not nearly as sexy, but the Corvette has been one of the best value sports cars for a long time.

So, I have been researching the Audi R8 Driving School in Sonoma California. It's a 2 day school, $4K per person. Basic instruction and they turn you loose on an R8 for 2 days. All meals and expert instruction. I would love to take my son in law to this.

The base 'vette is not a fair comparison but a Z06 is pretty comparable I think. The Z06 is one of the best sports cars in the world, especially for the price. However, it wouldn't be nearly as comfortable or practical for an everyday driver. The V10 R8 may be faster around a race track but I think it's significantly more than a Z06

Those do look good but anyone who repaints a brand new car that costs over $50K is fucking Special person. Nothing is better than factory paint

You're not looking far enough into cars if you think German cars are all about marketing and gimmicks. I'm going to preface this by saying I'm the biggest Mercedes homer on this board. I've worked on them exclusively for over 12 years. The reason German cars are so expensive is because of the stuff you can't see. They are engineered to protect passengers at all costs. You need that kind of safety when driving on the autobahn. All the rest of the stuff in a German car is put there to justify a high price tag for keeping people safe. I also hear people talk shit about Mercedes not having the latest audio technology. Mercedes makes great cars, not great stereos. If you want a cool stock stereo buy a Nissan, just don't be surprised of your brakes fail or the car crumples like a beer can if you hit a get in a fender bender.

I own a mercedes. Needed a change and needed a car to take clients in. I will tell you this, the car sucks. German cars are full of fail.

2011 E class. I also bought and flipped 3 2010 C classes and 1 s class. 2 of the 4 cars I had many many issues to deal with after the car was flipped. The customers were irrate and the bills werent for 700 here and 700 there....it was like 3,000 grand for this and 1700 for that. its a waste of time and money.
