So what?

He's a good pitcher in a great offensive division. Now he's going to have the opportunity to pitch in a much weaker offensive division. We're giving up mediocre-to-good prospects that are unproven for someone who is proven, in addition to adding some stability to a very inconsistent starting rotation.

The NL Central isn't an overall offensive division, but the MVP always comes from the NL Central and they have most the the NL's top sluggers.

"•ESPN's Keith Law (Insider subscription required) loves the trade for the Rays: "they got more for Garza than Kansas City did for Zack Greinke although their package of players is, collectively, further away than what the Royals got." Law had Hak-Ju Lee ranked as the top prospect in Chicago's system and calls the 20-year-old shortstop "the star of the deal" for Tampa Bay."

"•The trade is a "slight overpay" for the Cubs, writes Fangraphs' Joe Pawlikowski, but overall he likes the deal. Pawlikowski also cites concerns about how Garza will fare at Wrigley Field given Garza's propensity for giving up fly balls."

"•Kevin Kaduk of Yahoo Sports has no problem with the trade itself, but calls Garza just a "Band-Aid" on the Cubs' problems since he doesn't think Chicago is close to contending."

that sums it up right there.

Of course daddies would like this.

Anyone who likes this trade = Prospect Hater, or Yankees Fan.

Either that, or they are "fans" who haven't ever heard of Archer. Still waiting for minor league pitcher, since someone said they might be better than Archer earlier, but didn't give a source.

Give me the suicide hotline now! :shifty:

Maybe Archer could purposely fail his physical somehow and stop the trade.

again it is a brilliant PR move. hype up the rumors, the media will feed off of that, pump up garza like he is greinke, get the fans excited, make the trade, and bam.....false hope. tickets will be sold, fans will think the cubs are contenders now. it is brilliant on the part of the cubs to do this....business wise. for the fans, not so much.

phil rogers gets ripped on all the time on the score, his articles are comedy central for sports fans (cub) fans.

I really need to put my TV on mute or change the channel when he's on.

Not on-field better (in the long run), I've always supported Hendry, but now I'm calling for his head.

No, that's because we have Pujols.

I like this and I'm not a prospect hater. While Arch has value to us, he has had one good year of control. That could very easily change. To every scout out there he is nothing special. His ceiling is about a 2, which is what we have with Garza right now. I like the deal.

You think Garza's going to make us contend? Please say no.
(Not saying you said that BTW)

No, but he brings us closer. I don't think we're all that far away. Sounds like I just gave myself an article idea...

Ya, ok. This one. I've said I supported him and his trades before.

How can you say this is a bad trade before all the players have even been mentioned? That's flat out stupid. Not to even mention, ZERO games have been played. In a deal of 8 players, in which 7 of them are prospects, you can not say that it is extremely good or extremely bad when ZERO games have been played.
