The initial point of contact was helmet to helmet. If you can't see that then forget it.

I still have a real hard time believing it was Smith's face that hurt. He grabbed his effen nose after taking his mask off and checked his teeth! I've gotten rocked by a shoulder like that and the last thing I thought about was my nose and seeing if my teeth were there. Why? Cause I'm wearing a damn mask!

I think he milked every bit of it. But onto game three, hope they fire those pucks near his ears.

What if his mask rubbed his nose as it swung around and he thought it was torn off? What if the impact make his jaw feel like it had been dislocated? What if his teeth bashed together when his jaw was pushed to the side?

Come on Tony, see past the second half ham acting bit, and just look at the impact and initial reaction. That much was not implausible.

Is this a valid question, or are you still in the mood to nitpick my comments?

I guess I should be happy that a mod (who is supposed to be above this behavior) didn't call me stupid...

stupid.

So you acknowledge that the second half was ham acting, yet won't acknowledge the possibility that the first part was as well? What's the difference between what you are telling Ton to do and what he is telling you to do.

I hate to say this, but if any of that happened, he's wearing a shitty mask. Maybe his jaw could have been effected, and I would have believed it if he tweaked his neck... but his nose? That was the red flag for me that as soon as he hit the ice it was just an act especially since there was no blood to show for it... what does it matter if it was the 1st half or 2nd half?

His mask stayed on, it didn't go flying off.. if it did then sure his nose and mouth probably could have been effected, but it stayed pretty much perfectly on his head until he decided to rip it off.

Again, if he was hit in the head hard enough to cause that amount of pain for that amount of time, he should have at least come off the ice for a period of time to be assessed. Otherwise it's gross negligence by the entire organization.

Seriously? Have you ever been punched? Did you have time to decide how you were going to react? It is instinct, reactionary. Your argument might hold water, if there was little to no contact, but we all saw and agree that there was some kind of contact.

I've been punched. I've also been run with my goalie gear on. The whole thing was a ham act. Right when he felt impact he hammed it up.

You may not believe this, but yes, I have 3 older brothers, I've been more than punched plenty of times.

Would you put that past the Coyotes, seeing as how much they depend on him? Would you put that past any team in the NHL? Because I wouldn't. Hawks included.

Some of you guys have some pretty huge balls...if we are to believe you of course.

I've got an idea: I'm 6'2" and 260lbs right now. I skate pretty fast for my size. Can we hit the rink and test out some of these theories? I'll be happy to play the role of Shaw and we'll see if you guys 'feel anything' when I hit you?

Fair enough?

They are not supposed to have anything to do with this decision, it's entirely on the team doctor. Who was out on the ice, and did nothing but tell him when it was ok to get up because they sent Shaw off... (Yes I am exaggerating the last part for effect)

Totally agree. No point in going into the reasons why, it's not like I'll change anyone's opinion but I do agree with you.

Shaw isn't 6'2" 260... he's 5'10" and 180 pounds... huge difference. If anything it would be more comparable to you putting on the goalie gear and having me be Shaw. When you take in that factor it's not hard to believe that Smith put on a show.

Of course he felt something, I've been hit like that and sure do feel it... but unless I'm truly hurting or extremely dizzy I've never stayed down.

Shit, one time a guy flew by my crease at a good speed and straight up elbowed me on the side of my mask as the puck left our zone. Lucky I didn't tweak my neck but I sure as hell didn't dive... stayed on my feet for that one.

If I was a 6'4" and got hit by a 5'8" nat I would certainly have more pride than to imbellish the whole thing. My pride is worth more than a PP.

Okay, so I'll play goalie and Ton can run me. But when the shit really does hurt, like I know it will, you guys would think I was just acting.

That's you, and I agree with you. On the other hand, do you really believe no NHL players ever dive because of pride? After seeing Smith pull that, I have to believe he does not think like you do. Canuck worthy.
