I'd be thrilled if I was right and the cubs went after Strasburg.

MLBN is the ones who brought up Bryce Harper. Could be Strasburg. They said they were thinking Chicago or Boston, because not many others have the farm to pull off a deal. Would depend on what the end all goal is. Pitching/hitting, stars/prospects

Man, I'd take Bryce Harper. Question is what would it take to get him

I'm thinking it has to be Boston. Red Sox and Cubs are about the only ones that could pull off a deal like this and the Red Sox are in the AL. Dodgers traded Dee Gordon to acquire prospects to go after a SP, doubt it's them though. Especially if it is Harper, they have enough OF

What is the point of Jonny Gomes? Career .244 hitter. Hit right around that the last two years. A bit of pop but not much. Doesn't steal bases. How is this better than Coghs/Ruggiano in left?

Harper and Zimmerman are package together, would have to be a multi team trade.. cant see 1 team coming up with enough prospects or players for them

I don't think this has much truth. It would not surprise me to see the Cubs linked to multiple players now. The Cubs spending money is news and there are lots of Cubs fans itching for stories about how the rebuild is over and how the Cubs are marching to the playoffs.

I don't think another starter is coming in, unless it is a reclamation project.

I really would like to see a high OBA LF/CF. I don't think they have the answer at either spot right now so getting someone for one of those spots would be really nice.

Here's the problem with this reasoning: what if it comes together a year before they expected? It would be shortsighted to not account for this possibility, especially when the Cubs have the money to spend. Furthermore, by signing two FA pitchers during a rare year when FA pitching is available, removes the need to trade prospects, which the FO has been selling the fan base on.

Do the Cubs really want to waste a year if it comes together for the younger players in such a way that they might have made the playoffs if they had more pitching?

For who?

Harper? You'd get laughed at.

Zimmerman? You'd get laughed at more.

They'll want Bryant for Harper and Russell for Zimmerman.

Jordan Zimmerman has one year of control left before free agency. That greatly reduces the value. I'd love to have Zimmerman, but you have no guarantee you can sign him long-term, and the big $ being thrown at FA's makes it harder to keep guys from testing the waters.

I wouldn't want to see Russell going for one year control Heck, we "robbed" Oakland getting Russell for 1 1/2 years of Shark. (A lesser pitcher than Zimmerman, but still)

I am not holding my breath on Zimmerman, but it wouldn't shock me.

Wouldnt giving up your 2 top prospects, go against everything youve been doing the last few years? or is it cool and out the window becasue you get proven studs in harper and zim?
personally, Id really hate to see bryant play anywhere but here..but harper and zim prob put this team over the top right now. Ive been waiting 49 yrs by the way..I gotta see it before I die..

Is 1 year of Zimmerman worth more, less, or equal to 1.5 years of Samardzija and 1/2 year of Hammel?

Of course it would be counter productive.

But it takes 2 teams to trade.

Especially for good players. Explain how that "return" package benefits Washington for Ryan Zimmerman (not Jordan) or Harper? Their GM would be fired for making that.

You wouldn't make that deal if you were Washington's GM. That gets you fired.

If its for Jordan Zimmerman, different story, it would be closer---not something I feel they'd accept. Almora, Vogelbach, and Pierce Johnson sounds better.

Keep Bryant, keep Russell. Keep everybody. Find a small market sucker like St. Louis did for Matt Holliday and exploit them with a Brett Wallace deal.

Ever hear of Brett Wallace? Nobody has. Scrub, former top bust prospect.

I want nothing to do with Alcantara, Wellington Castillo, or Louis Valbuena if I'm going to consider dealing 2 of my very important cornerstone franchise players. Same with you. You'd want top returns back.

I want to win to. By I'm staying realistic here.

HAHA... Bryant for Harper, that's funny. I think the Cubs would be the ones laughing there.
