Except Bryant will be a better player than Harper. Harper hit what last year.. around .270? I'm sure you, as a Sox fan, would love to see the Cubs make that trade. But I'll pass. Thanks though.

I have no opinion on Harper in trade until it's more realistic. That being said... I feel like people are forgetting he's 22... a year younger than Bryant.

Many fans like yourself bought into the hype. Bryant's ceiling is higher than Harp's at this juncture.

He still hit .270 last year and I'd be surprised if Bryant didn't at least match that in his rookie year.

I'm not even comparing the two at this point because it's pointless. I'm just saying you're bashing him for hitting .270 which by the way isn't bad average at any age let alone 22. His career average is .272/.351/.465 which would be good for most people's prime years. He's still likely 5 years away from that. A .351 OBP last year was good for top 40 players in the league.

I'm not saying he's a bad player. Someone mentioned they would trade Bryant straight up for Harper and I think that would be stupid without even seeing what Bryant can do on the big stage. I think Bryant will be a 300+ hitter easily and will be a perennial all-star.

I'm not even against Bryant but you're possibly being pretty optimistic. Fangraph's prospect guy had this for Bryant's upside.
Upside: .275/.360/.540, 35-40 homers, average defense

The problem with projecting Bryant's average is his BABIP is through the roof in the minors. Up until AAA it was over .400 at every stop and was still a huge .367 in AAA. As a reference point, the top BABIP in the majors over the past 3 years was Trout at .370 so that would be the upper range and given trout has better speed I think it's going to come down some for Bryant. I don't think it's a case of him being "lucky" but more a case of him just smashing pitching in the minors. Lots of line drives will distort that average some. If we assume that AAA BABIP comes down slightly to the .340ish range then you're talking about a similar line to what fangraphs had for his upside.

I don't think I'm being that optimistic. Almost everything I've read/heard is that Bryant will be one of the best in the biz. I've noticed that you seem to be more pessimistic regarding our prospects than almost the entirety of baseball.

If you knew how to read, I said that the Nationals would ask for Bryant for Harper in a trade when it was speculated that they would shop him or Ryan Zimmerman, and some poster said Almora, Alcantara, Castillo and Valbuena would be what he would deal. Then I went into my 'it takes 2 teams to trade' spiel.

Beck has it right. Harper is 22 and still growing. Its not like he just turned 30 and has hit a wall.

Suggesting someone who's never played a game in the majors will hit .270 is being pessimistic?

Also for what it's worth here's streamer's line for Bryant next season .260/.341/.485

.270 would be a massive disappointment for Bryant.

Can we wait before he actually faces major league talent and shows consistency before we start blowing our loads?

Or do we think there's no possible way he can turn into a bust?

Cause last I checked against Clayton Kershaw in a rehab start in AA, he went 0-4 with 3 Ks.

Keep it in the pants, skippy.

You thanked a post by Dews saying that the Nats would laugh if the Cubs offered Bryant for Harper. So basically what you said there was you'd rather have Harper than Bryant which is pretty damn stupid.

Sure because nobody has ever gone 0-4 against Kershaw before

I'll wait if you wait to start offering Bryant for Harper in a trade.

Think you just have a distorted view of what is average these days. Only 16 hitters last year hit over .300. 76 of 146 qualified hitters hit above .270 last season. As such, .270 is "above average."

Edit: also for what it's worth most scouts give Bryant a 50 to 55 grade on his hit tool. As such, most think he'll be in that range.

Except I wouldn't.

I said, once again; if you knew how to read......

that If you were Washington, and the Cubs called inquiring about Harper, the first guy they'd ask for is Kris Bryant.

Major league all stars struggle against Kershaw. Then they get a day f rest the nest time their team faces him. Are we seriously dissing Bryant for getting schooled by Kershaw when Bryant was a AA player?
