Let's not act like he missed 120 games here. A 1.0 WAR is a disappointment coming from a guy like Harper. Could the Nats be fed up with him? Who knows. Not saying I wouldn't love having him on the Cubs.

Doesn't make sense to blow up what they've spent 3 years building to take him on.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
Can we wait before he actually faces major league talent and shows consistency before we start blowing our loads?

Or do we think there's no possible way he can turn into a bust?

Cause last I checked against Clayton Kershaw in a rehab start in AA, he went 0-4 with 3 Ks.

Keep it in the pants, skippy.
Last I checked, successful MLB stars have went 0-4 with 3 k's against Kershaw in Dodger Stadium. Your argument isn't very compelling.

In addition to their previously-reported interest in Wade Miley, Jeff Wilson reports that the Rangers have also considered a trade for Cubs lefty Travis Wood.

He has been injured from putting his body at risk. The talent is there but he has been his own worse enemy.

I'm not even against Bryant but you're possibly being pretty optimistic. Fangraph's prospect guy had this for Bryant's upside.
Upside: .275/.360/.540, 35-40 homers, average defense

The problem with projecting Bryant's average is his BABIP is through the roof in the minors. Up until AAA it was over .400 at every stop and was still a huge .367 in AAA. As a reference point, the top BABIP in the majors over the past 3 years was Trout at .370 so that would be the upper range and given trout has better speed I think it's going to come down some for Bryant. I don't think it's a case of him being "lucky" but more a case of him just smashing pitching in the minors. Lots of line drives will distort that average some. If we assume that AAA BABIP comes down slightly to the .340ish range then you're talking about a similar line to what fangraphs had for his upside.

LMAO. According to my analysis Bryant projects out to:

0.377 BA
0.481 OBP
58 HR
161 RBI

Dude is like Babe Ruth with 4% body fat. Wouldn't be surprised to see him fill in at SP and throw a few no-no's, as well.

They would never trade Harper for Valbuena. That's a joke.

Phillies inquiring about travis wood and has also been interested in Castillo. ..

Be cool if Cubs could work on putting together package around those 2 for Cole Hamels

Yea, no. They would maybe be throw ins. I am reading the Rangers are the most serious about Wood. Hamels contract looks like a steal considering this off season. Scherzer is going to get huge money when only a fistful of teams are interested.

Also, I am reading from legit scouts that the whole big bat thing was made up on Twitter for the Cubs. That has never had legs.

Wood and Castillo for Ben Revere makes sense. Frees up a little cash to get the other players like Gomes and another pitcher. Not that Revere is great, but he does hit, and he does run very well. Cubs need table setters. At this point, they are better served with a table setter than they are with a #5 pitcher, and a platoon catcher, in which they could get Ross to catch Lester anyways and make him happy.

At the start of the year, they could go with:

Revere CF
Coghlan/Gomes LF
Rizzo 1B
Bryant 3B
Soler RF
Castro SS
Montero C
Baez 2B

Lester/Arrieta/Hammel/(Peavy-Anderson)/Hendricks

I could live with that although I wouldn't install Hendricks at 5, is make him compete for it with Jacob Turner who I actually like better long term. As far as Revere,I would call that taking your medicine. You need it but it tastes baadddd. I mean we've seen that movie when Ben Revere was called Juan Pierre right?

I don't think they are giving up on Alcantara. If anything they would replace Coghlan as he is shorter term.

I've said Philly seems to be a ideal trade partner and if they are willing to take on Wood and Castillo they should do so.

Debatable.

Turner has more top end but may never reach it.

Hendricks is maxing out with what he has.
