Re:OT: Movie talk

i was extremely excited bout terminator salvation as a HUGE HUGE HUGE Fan of the first 2 (infact i like the original, thou its almost a TIE for my favorite movie with T2 & Ghostbusters)

The reviews have been discouraging. Then again some reviews are often off base with how i feel, such as transformers which i thought was great

I hope I enjoy it when it comes out next week

Finally watched Valkyrie the other nite good flick shame they couldnt use german accents killed the realism a little.

BTW Ghostbusters 3 possibly starting filming in the next few months everyones signed back on board. I hope it holds up to the first, or at least equal to the 2nd

Re:OT: Movie talk

Ok, I wanted to hold this off for my discussion with Fred on our next cast, but I feel I must devulge this now, because the topic is so important it cannot wait.

Do NOT and I repeat...DO NOT, see Terminator Salvation. It was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I am a HUGE Terminator fan. I even thought T3 was alright. I am also a movie fan who can enjoy epic story driven plots like T1 or T2, or something that is stupid and fun like Alien vs Predetor Requiem. This pile of trash however, was neith story driven or fun, it was just stupid. The acting sucks, the story sucks, the only good thing about the movie were the special effects, which were by no means good enough to make me disregard how AWFUL the movie was. We are talking Starship Troopers bad here. We are talking It is a disgrace to the Terminator franchise.

SEMI-SPOILER ALTERT

I really feel that this movie should of been a sure fire slam dunk. The story was already written consdiering what we saw of the war in T1 and T2. Why not just make a simple story about post-judgment day, John rising the ranks, killing Terminators. Skynet becomiing more advanced, going from Terminators which u could detect to ones which you couldnt and the whole world being scared (but resiliant). Instead they do this HORRIFIC story of a half-man/half-terminator, WHO THINKS HE'S HUMAN!?!?!? WHAT!??!?!?!?One of the worst imagined charecters ever. Half the movie is him comming to grips with being a robot.....WHAT THE HELL DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ANY OF THE AWESOMENESS THAT IS TERMINATOR!....the second half is John having to learn to "trust" him since he is so jaded of Terminators since they killed his father (I think McG forgot T2. THIS HAPPENED ALREADY! If you do not remember, John gained trust for them in T2 and in T3 him and Arnold were bossum buddies, so why all of a sudden the thought of a good Terminator is such a hard thing for him to believe!!!) The whole last 30 mintues of the movie are practicly unwatchable, sans a brief entrance by Arnold circa 1984. Nothing, however, NOTHING was worse the ending. The whole, giving the "heart" to John. Not only did my girlfriend and me call this scene occuring about 45 minutes earlier, but it was so dumb, so cheesy, so stupid, I wanted to barf all over the screen.

SPOILERS END

I may honestly seem waaay to angry about this film. I am. Like I said, I love Terminator and have been a fan since the begining. I had been looking forward to this movie for over a year. They could of seriously shown a T-800 shooting people for 2 hrs and I would of been happy. They didnt though. McG decided instead to film a giant turd for 2 hrs. Honestly, it is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. See Star Trek! Much better!

Oh man, if GB3 is equal to GB2, than it's an epic failure. GB2 was so wretchedly, horrible it hurts my brain even recounting it. I don't know why they even feel the need to make a 3rd. It's not going to be any good because Ivan Reitman will not be involved, and Murray isn't really sold on it either, which I don't blame him. I wouldn't want to have my name attached to it.

I've heard from several friends of mine that Terminator Salvation was epicly bad, worse than T3 which is hard to believe. But since Cameron decided to auction the franchise, well what's to be expected. Oh and it was directed by "Charlie's Angels" McG, who as well as being a complete coward (see Bale's rant), is one of the worst types of mtv-turned-hollywood directors out there. Gotta say my hopes aren't too high for TS being even half-way decent.

Paul...TS is not just worse then T3, its as if someone took T3, combined it with Freddie Got Fingerd, Waterworld and Charlies Angeles, then took a giant deuce on it. It is THAT much worse then T3. T3 is a masterpice comparied to this master peice of #$#$.

Also, I am very against doing sequals just to do sequals. You bring up a good point. Ghostbusters 2 sucked. Also, that came out when all the actors were still in their 30's. I am not overly opimistic of a new adventure when they are all in their 60's. How will Egon get around, the man weighs like a deuce, decuce and a half now! Same with Aykroyd!

Just saw State of Play tonight, I thought it was pretty good. I think they went with one too many twists at the end, but otherwise quite good.

Ok, seriously. It was reviews like this that almost made me hold off seeing the movie all together. I was expecting it to be a train wreck of epic proportions. For all its warts, I enjoyed myself. The visual effects work is outstanding and make it worth its admission price. I'm still amazed at how well they pulled of Arnold circa-1985.

Did the movie have some cheesy one liners? Sure it did, but so did T1, T2 (some horrible one liners that people forgive), and T3. And sure, the heart thing is a little outlandish and you can see it coming a mile away. However, in a movie where you have to openly accept murderous bi-pedal robots and time travel, I don't think it's too big of a jump to ask the audience to make.

I also don't get the beef with Marcus (the half terminator). T1, T2, and T3 all went back in time and drastically f*cked with the time line. It stands to reason that after judgment day was delayed over and over that the future was going to turn out vastly different then what was originally predicted in T1. Skynet came up with a different means of infiltrating the resistance. Connor isn't going to default trust this thing because of his experience with Arnold in T2. It's completely different then anything he's seen before. The whole freaking future is different then what he was told...essentially the entire point of the movie.

Anyway, I won't apologize for it anymore. The movie should have been much better and Star Trek kicks its ass in every single way. However, I do hope they bring in a different director, keep the same actors, and proceed with a couple more of these. I was entertained and would like to see this story's conclusion.

I liked Ghostbusters 2 it had some decent laughs in it....definately not as great as the first one. I believe Ackroyd & Ramis, who wrote the first 2 with Reitman, are writing the script. I just hope they can pull it off. I definately dont wish failure or embarassment, i just hope for the best. even if it is let down

Freddy Got Fingered I liked as a stoner movie back in the day, just because it was so Special person it was funny (the aim of the film).

I've seen different reviews on TS. The main faults are people saying "its too dark with no humor" well too me thats good coz when u allow too much humor ala T3 then it kills the tension too much. T3 was a very good film but it was a let down due to it not being of Terminator quality (1 & 2 greatest films of all time). The other faults i've heard is either crap or lack of story & dialouge that make you feel for the characters But some reviews have praised it.

Eithey way my expectations are now in check & who knows it might suprize me, i may like it. I will see it regardless. If i dont like it well, what I do is, I watch T2 Ultimate Edition dvd with the alternate ending on where judgement day doesnt happen & just forget 3 & 4, kinda what I do with any Alien movie outside of Alien & Aliens, & Predator outside of the first one.

Mark I need to ask you do you think maybe because you were looking forward to it so much that that made the impact much worse. If it didnt have the title "terminator" would you come out as disapointed? Do you also think that maybe if say, no 5th one is made, that maybe somewhere 10 years from now, someone can do what Chris Nolan did to batman & just restart it & make it as good if not better?

By the way I heard your latest pod cast & I totally agree with you, Terminator 1 is great! Fred started to go off on how crap the SFX were but I was glad to hear you rebutt his criticism's with the facts that it was made in 1984 on a low budget. The story, the soundtrack & the suspense makes up for that quite easily. In fact I prefer #1 over #2 but its close. To me #1 is more of action horror film for whatever reason Arnie's bad guy terminator intimidates me more than the more advanced T-1000 (even thou it is awesome without a doubt)

Re:OT: Movie talk

I've got a really tough choice this weekend: Land of the Lost or The Hangover.

On one hand you have Will Ferrell & Danny McBride, two of my favorite comedic actors right now, and on the other Todd Phillips, who wrote & directed Old School, one of my favorite comedies. The previews for both look hysterical. The Hangover appears to be getting better reviews, some are calling it the comedy of the summer.

GOSH! I AM IN A PICKLE HERE!

I didn't enjoy that movie as much as I thought I would. However, the Fed Agent who couldn't understand the parents was pretty funny. I was totally creeped out by W. He make-up was friggin' weird.

I watched 'Semi-Pro' again yesterday. It gets funnier everytime I watch it.

I may get bashed for this but i hate Will Ferrell. I truly find him unfunny. I find myself amazed how many people love him.

You know I encounter many people who feel the same way. I think you either love him or hate him, there's no gray area. But I love dry humor and Ferrel is one of the best at it.

Re:OT: Movie talk

I watched TS at the midnight showing, & you know what Mark, maybe its because of the my expectations being lowered by your review & others reviews of it, but I actually really really liked it.

Definately not as good as the first 2, but those 2 are hard to touch being possibly the best films of all time. But definately better than T3

There are some plot holes, but then again there are quite a few in T2 & more so in T3. One simple example, Kyle in T1 says only human tissue can travel back. Well how did the liquid metal (i guess you could argue it could form skin around itself when it transforms)

I'm not sure if you are aware, but 30-40 minutes were cut from the film that would've I feel given the story & character more depth, same thing happened when you compare the original Aliens to the special edition. Even some of the scenes from the trailers were removed.

I definitely thought they jumped way ahead of time they shouldve covered more of how the resistance formed & came to be rather than jumping straight into a war scene.

I definitely understand why the T-700 (half human half terminator) was made, I mean its all explained towards the end, because I like Mark & others had questioned how & why a half-human terminator would exist, I thought they explained that fairly well.

Overall pleasantly suprized. Would I have prefered Cameron followed through with the promises of the T2:3D ride thing as his idea of the future war looked cooler, however this was definately not as bad as a film as depicted IMO

I'm so glad someone else had the same experience with the movie that I did. All the hatred being thrown at this movie is kind of misplaced. I enjoyed myself as well, as my last post about the movie stated.

Re:OT: Movie talk

saw it a 2nd time. hmm not as good 2nd time. I see the plot holes more now. Shame theres some good foundation & the action is great makes it worthwhile seeing but just the way its pieced together is poorly handled

I wish I was the script writer could have done a better job
