I watched "The Other Guys" last night and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It was one hell of a refreshing take on the buddy cop movie... and having Ferrell be (mostly) the straight-man and Wahlberg be the nut worked well for it. It was also really nice to see Michael Keaton in a comedy again - I don't know why he doesn't do as much anymore because it's really a major strength for him.

What made the movie even better was that it didn't really rely on a drug/gang plot device that most movies like this fall into... but that it went after new corporate crimes like Ponzi Schemes.

Yeah I was surprised how funny this was. I'm a big Michael Keaton fan but he was really good in this one. This is the funniest Ferrell has been in a while. Wahlberg is good too. Also the twist at the start with the Samuel L. Jackson and the Rock is hilarious.

Saw Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader. One of the weaker of the series, but I guess that happens when you drop half of the main characters and replace them with a sniveling complaining bratty British fop.

I'm just glad they turned him into a dragon for half the movie... I don't think I could have handled him for the entire movie

Also, saw the first 2 lord of the rings again this weekend (wife wanted to watch them for some reason, not that I'm complaining
<
) They were just as good as I remembered (thought eh first one's CG, while amazing at the time, are quite obvious now.

The only LOTR movie I have a problem with is Return of the King, they seriously could have cut out a good chunk of the friggin frodo scenes. Too much climbing that fucking mountain, whenever I watch that movie I fast forward through those parts.

I watched "Monsters" last night, which was far from the B-movie tripe I thought it was going to be. Liked the whole thing save for the ending.

Saw Tron: Legacy a few days ago... I really need to go back and watch the first, I remember almost nothing of it. Not that it really ruined the sequel, just that I think there were some things I would have understood a little better. Of the movie itself, I can say that it was just ok. I opted to NOT do the 3D and I'm happy with that decision... while some parts of the movie would have looked really neat, on the whole - it didn't need it. I don't know if I would have made a special trip for it, but it wasn't horrible. Just full of plot-holes... Olivia Wilde is plenty good enough to look at and Jeff Bridges does a pretty decent job playing two different characters believably but I just kept feeling like the whole movie was motivated just to make a sequel and NOT because they had a good story.

Believe me you didnt miss anything in 3D with that movie. Halfway through I forgot it was even in 3D it was so unnoticeable.

Saw the King of California a few days ago. Odd movie, but I really enjoyed it. I'm not good at writing a synopses of movies, but short one from imdb

An unstable dad who after getting out of a mental institution tries to convince his daughter that there's Spanish gold buried somewhere under suburbia.

Oh, and I just finished watching Outsourced (the movie the TV show is based off of). The movie, unlike the TV show) is actually really good. Very funny, but if you watched the show you can see where they pulled a LOT of jokes/situations from, except they are executed much better in the movie. The movie is actually good, whereas the TV show just started to get somewhat decent (though they changed a lot, and the changes were some of the things I didn't like about the show.

I agree. I liked the movie quite a bit. The show has sucked for the most part.

Just watched this one too, was kind of disappointed I had never heard of this movie, because I really really enjoyed it. Better than the show by far although the "Todd" character in the show is a bit more likeable than the movie - but I think that's on purpose.

With that said, I don't think the show is horrible, just not up to the caliber of the movie. The show takes the easy road to humor too often.

Brooklyn's Finest--Because of the cast, which included Don Cheadle, Richard Gere and Ethan Hawke, I expected it to be better. It wasn't terrible but not as good as I thought it would be.

The Wolfman--Obviously Anthony Hopkins being in the movie is a draw but it was nothing special imo.

The Unborn--Weird fuckin flick is all I can say. Think along the lines of "The Grudge" (which I liked) only a lot more weird.

Watched "Salt" this weekend.

Decent action flick alot of "twists" but alot of the plot points were easy to establish before they are "revealed".

The Trotsky. Absurd movie, but entertaining. Basically this 17 year old thinks he's Leo Trotsky reincarnated and he tries to emulate him. It's a decent light-hearted comedy.

"The Fighter"

An excellent movie and Christian Bale needs an Academy for his performance.

Education of Charlie Banks: 3 out of 5

In the valley of Ellah: 4 out of 5 (Surprising number of big names)

Gamer: 2.5 (Wasn't the worst thing ever, AMH performance almost makes it a 4)

Crank 2: 4 (Yes 4 out of 5, if you take it for exactly what it is, it's hilarious with good action, and they throw in some nudity to get it over the 3 star hump, excellent movie, plus I'm a big Statham Fan)

Heh, I am going to have to throw that in the Netflix queue. You know what would have been a perfect Socialist-angle comedy highjinks double-bill for you? That great little German black comedy from a few years ago "Goodbye Lenin!"---I loved that film! Same sort of absurdist vibe only in the case of "Lenin" a good son played by Daniel Bruhl works his ass off to convince his recently-awakened from a coma mother that East Germany is still alive and ununified with West Germany, the Wall is still up, the food lines still exist, etc. When she collapsed and fell into the coma he was being arrested and the DDR is right on the cusp of change and by the time she awakens from the coma, Communism has collapsed, life has changed to the tune of 360 degrees, and the kid is led to believe the shock would be too sudden and momentous to her heart/health and recuperation. So naturally the highjinks ensue with him enlisting the help of others and trying to hunt down old Communist era food items, old recorded TV and radio broadcasts, old papers, etc. Great gem of a little film through and through.

For an over the top action movie I was a big fan of Shoot Em Up. Highly entertaining.

I also just watched Brooklyn's Finest for the first time last week. A friend recommended it to me because he knows I loved Training Day but I felt pretty much the same as you about it. Good cast, but just an okay movie.
