For an over the top action movie I was a big fan of Shoot Em Up. Highly entertaining.

I was as well, I went in there thinking I would hate it, and came out pleasantly surprised with Shoot Em Up.

I also agree regarding Shoot 'Em Up - Machete is great for the same reasons.

Watched "The Centurion" on netflix last night. Decent hack and slash, loosely historic film, worth a look.

Couldn't agree more.

Have you seen the whole trilogy directed by Deepa Mehta which includes "Earth" and "Fire" in addition to "Water"? Each film stands alone as fine filmmaking IMO but taken as a whole it's a pretty stunning small foreign film creative accomplishment. . .much like the "Red", "White" and "Blue" series from the 90s.

I have not. I'll have to add those to my queue.

If you like psychological horror and war movies, add "deathwatch" to your netflix queue. Yes the box cover and name seem campy as hell but its anything but.

Premise, a group of british soldiers in WW1 get lost in fog and end up in a German trench and take a prisoner, but it essentially isn't the germans they should be worrying about.

It has good acting and is well made and a decent story.

Target has "A Fistful of Dollars" on Blu-Ray for $10, so I picked it up and watched it last night - I forgot how fucking good that movie is. Sergio Leone definitely had an interesting style and Ennio Moricone scores a spaghetti western like no one else.

Makes me want to look for and watch "For a Few Dollars More" and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly"

No one railing on Green Hornet yet... that's at least positive... ish. Decent info about the red eye today. Guess it's been thrown around since 93 where clooney and Jason Scoot Lee were attached.

For a guy who doesn't seem to write nearly as many 1 star reviews as he used to, I would consider this raling on the Green Hornet. Then again, his reviews of these types of movies are usually way off.

It's been thrown around for years... at one point Kevin Smith had written a script was set to direct too... than they were still going to use his script and have someone else direct.

Holy shit I'm racist, I thought Jay Chou was John Cho... **** me sideways.... Either way it's a pass for me. I hope that may it does moderately successful and they do a reboot down the road, this time letting Kevin Smith or someone do it right. I think they had it right when the cast Jet Li, and probably Clooney, not so sure about Gylenhaal though.

Pulled a double-feature on Saturday and saw True Grit and HP: The Deathly Hallows - Part 1

True Grit - great modern western. I have to agree with Ebert when he said something to the effect of "John Wayne played Rooster Cogburn, Jeff Bridges BECAME him." I was actually surprised how many lines the Coen's kept in from the original, which lead me to believe that they were probably from the novel. Perhaps I'll have to add it to my ever growing list.

Harry Potter was good too, but at this point, you're either a fan of the series/books or not and will see or not see the movie accordingly. Rhys Ifans was surprisingly good and I almost didn't recognize him playing a bit more of a "polished" crazy person. Still feel like quite a bit was left out but regardless, I'll be checking out the last movie and watching the story get visually wrapped up.

And my, has Hermione grown up. <- dirty old man comment.

The Fighter - really good movie and Bale could win an Oscar. Melissa Leo & Amy Adams both had great performances as well.

watched a movie called "5 Fingers" with Ryan Phillipe and Lawrence Fishburne. Finally a movie with a Twist that didn't give itself away 5 minutes in.

Predators via Netflix. Worth a watch. Nice twist on the beat to death story line. Adrian Brody does a good job.

Watched 1st 2 episodes of the HBO series "Pacific", also on Netflix. I'm a war movie lover, so I'm loving it.

I saw the whole thing first run. It's good, but its missing something that band of brothers had. I am not sure what, but it is. I don't think the character development is quite as good.

Black Swan - It lived up to the hype for me. Excellent movie. I can see why Portman is getting talked about for an Academy Award for best actress. Amazing job.

Gangster No. 1 on Showtime is worth a look. British film about the rise of a sadistic street thug to crime syndicate boss.
