When did the argument change from "better" to "valuable"? Those terms are not synonymous. And if there are lesser of a player in a particular area, does that not increase his value?
the reason tyson chandler got the award is because the knicks had lackadaisical and simply inept defensive players(aside from shumpert) and played, for a while, under d'antoni's system...which,um, does not stress defense(big reason, imo, his great suns teams didn't go far)
tyson changed the defensive dynamic in the post and individually is a very good defender
though i think shumpert should get some credit for doing his part to re-tool the defense...as well as the coaching change
regardless, tyson did his part in the post...so i would argue he had great value down there
that's why he got the award. Is he the best defender in the league? I would definitely disagree with that sentiment
But forget that argument. As has been pointed out numerous times...THIS YEAR...Lebron was the best defender in the NBA. He had the best year defensively. Whether you want to talk about Howard's injuries, or the inability of certain Heat players to play at a high level defensively this year (Battier anyone?). Rami fails to notice that Battier did not have a good year this year, on either side of the ball.
i think lebron certainly has a case for being the best defender this year...i think, as it has been said, it is debatable...but wade has been inconsistent and not had the best year because of nagging injuries imo
ya, battier is aging and, imo, didn't mesh well with the team system and everything else
Whatever way you want to look at it, Lebron was both more valuable and the best this season.
perhaps...
