Niemis Arbitration

My take on that play? If Soupy doesn't get his stick on that puck it goes LOWER than it actually did, probably hitting Niemi in the upper chest. I don't think Campbell deflected left, right or down. Either way, it doesn't go in...
Moot now but if Campbell doesnt get his blade on that puck it sails right over Niemi into the net. That's exactly what Carter said after the game as well.

Im with RK. Niemi sure did show some flashes of amazing skill and, more importantly, poise and maturity. However, he has yet to play a full NHL season.

If he wants a big payday, he should agree to a 2 year at 2 mill or so, then when it's time for a new contract, if he still has played to the level we all hope he can, then go ahead and give him years and cash.
And what if he suffers some career ending injury and never gets to that new contract? That's the way these guys think, get the most you can, when you can.

Re: Niemi makes me say "NO!" (arbitration confirmed)
I really feel that the issue here with arbitration is not an Antti agenda.

I am going to speculate it is purely an agent move because I do not believe

Antti has the personality to support this type of aggression. Then again, that

is just my opinion. If my assumption is correct then I hope that someone can

get to him and explain the ramifications he is establishing for himself in the

hockey community not just from team perspectives but also from a fan perspective

like those of us here.
At the end of the day the agent can't do anything the player doesn't sign off on. And what exactly is he estabilishing for himself? He doesn't want to be low balled? It's not as if he has refused to report to camp (yet) or has said he'll sit out a year (yet) like Khabi did. You think Khabi cared what the Coyotes fans thought? I know it's fun to think of all these guys as warm and caring and have a "Aw schucks, I'm just lucky to play" but it's a business first and foremost; just like any other business there will be tense negotiations between management and labor, this case is one of many.

Some of them, sure. If he prices himself off the Hawks so be it. He knows the Cap situation. Zito does too.

Isn't Zito Maddens agent too? I heard Madden was offered a 2yr, 2mil contract and turned it down. Zito has always been a pain in the ass. Just doing his job I guess.

And to top it off THANK GOD we won the Cup.

Imagine having to go through this without having won the Cup. Watching Buff, Steeg, Ladd, Eager, Burrish, Sopel, and Frazer all leave with no Cup. Having PK still finish in the top 10 in NHL scoring so as STILL being nailed by his bonus against the Cap.

Oh it would be so ugly.

Instead it's rebuilding around the core, with a very good chance, not even knowing the final line up, that this team can still compete for another Championship.

I wonder how much the brass sigh every day thinking "what if we didn't". I no I have several times while watching all of this.
Sassone thinks he'll ask for $4 million and get it.

I'm in the let him walk camp if he's really asking for that much.
After years of having the cubicle next Rozner, I believe Sassone's mind is beginning to rot.

Re: Niemi makes me say "NO!" (arbitration confirmed)

It's called negotiating. Niemi's agent will sell high, Scooter will try and buy low.

At some point they will meet in the middle and this will be completed.

My guess. Niemi's agent asks for 3 yrs 12 million; Hawks offer 3 years 8 million.

They settle on 3 years 10 million and call it a day.

I say 3 million/year or less, we can sign him. Anything less we'd have to let him go, no matter how painfull it would be to see that. We just don't have the money right now to sign him for that much and fill in the rest of our roster.

Re: Niemi makes me say "NO!" (arbitration confirmed)

Krazy:

If Niemi signes for 3M, Hammer can't sign for any more than about 2.5M to make our min roster with those we have signed--on or off of it. At least, according to my numbers.

My numbers could be wrong. Personally, I'm hoping we get both for 2.5 or less. I think given their performances and careers as yet, that would be a fair asking price.

Re: Niemi makes me say "NO!" (arbitration confirmed)

Am I correct in thinking that Hammer is not arbitration eligible? He either accepts the offer tendered or sits out/plays in Europe?

They need to get Niemi resolved so they can address the rest of the roster.

You are correct. Two other options:1) He gets an offer sheet from another team, and 2) The Hawks negotiate above the qualifying offer. Qualifying offers are usually about 10% above the previous contract. Hjalmarsson made an average of 640K on his last contract.

I think many of us are anxious to get the Niemi and Hjalmarsson deals done!

I don't see a Niemi deal getting done if they match Hammer.

If your opinion is true then the Bowman's touch in getting contracts done is

way over rated and I would consider them to be a complete failure for not

getting Niemi and Hjammer done.

I hope you are wrong.

Would be awfully tight. Assuming the 4th line and the bottom dman pairing at 500k per. If Niemi gets 3 million in arbitration, swap out Crawford and that leave a whopping 100K.

Anyone know the timeline in the arbitration as to when it has be decided by?

Wondering how it ties into the offer sheet timeline for Hjammer.

I'm pretty sure that the arbitration hearing will be after the Hammer offer sheet deadline.

They can always come to an agreement before Arbitration but I doubt Zito would go for that.
