Both well under .900.

Series was definitely not decided by the "outstanding" goal tending. I would be more comfortable paying Niemi 2.5 plus if he had more than ONE NHL YEAR.
Yea that was obvious, many goalies would have won the cup with us playing behind this team. (duck and cover)

I'm not trying to knock Niemi either. He made some key saves, but so did leighton in the two games they won. One on Toews in the waning seconds that won them game #4 out right.

It is what it is but Cup or no Cup until you have more than one NHL season under your belt, you are still somewhat a rookie. Luckily for the Hawks it appears most of the key cogs are returning.

Yea, can't wait for a couple of days when some of the bandwagoner's I know are asking me why we traded Versteeg and explaining how its just like the Bull's in 98', it will happen.

But the main thing increasing Niemi's value along with every one else is the fact that he's not only been the before, but he won.

I agree 100% that I wouldn't pay him more than 2.5

Twould be outrageous IMO. One of the few goalies I can think of that wouldn't have won it would have been Huet. I am confident that he'll get what he deserves.
I guess I wouldn't be surprised. I keep seeing a lot of stories about San Jose making him an offer.
I'd think it more likely that SJ make a push for Turco. And someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but if Niemi is really going to arbitration, I don't think offer sheets are permitted.

Correct but the ONLY place that's shown arbitration is Sucklund, who also reported the Sharks were going to make an offer. Biggest idiot of them all.

This isn't at shot at RK or anybody else in this thread just a reminder it takes .............

16 WINS THRU 4 SERIES TO WIN THE CUP.

The Norris trophy winner was so-so in the finals as well and he got 60 million.

Team effort. Duncan earned his 60 MIL and is on his 3rd contract.

20 man team effort? or just the ones without leg pads on?

Nope I agree. Win as a team. That's why one position is really no more important than another.

Both teams were very offensive so IMO neither goalie was spectacular in the final round. Unfortunately for Leighton the better "TEAM" won!

I thought Niemi was incredible in games 2, 5 and 6.

Hahah, I see what your saying. But do you not agree at least a little that many goalies could have done the job for us this year, granted maybe not at the price and being a rookie.

NEWSFLASH...........Niemi is a rookie in the eyes of the NHL. He played professionally in Finland. You people act like he is a kid. He's 26 years old for goodness sake.

I'm aware, but we won the cup with a rookie goaltender. I mean sure he was playing against men in Finland but the talent difference compared to the NHL, come on, not to mention it was his 2nd year in the U.S., 26 or not he was a rookie.

If we won the cup with a rookie in goal last year no reason we cant win it next year with a rookie in goal. Let Niemi walk, put Huet in Rockford and let Crawford play next year. How's that plan sound?

And the year after that we can use Toivonen!

Relax. Playing in any other league is much different than the NHL. He's got ONE year NHL experience. He's still a rookie. Also should have been up for the Calder IMO but his age screwed him some.

There was obviously a reason Niemi got the nod over Crawford let alone Huet. Crawford may never cut it who knows, who would have ever though Craig Anderson would be one of the best in the NHL, I remember watching him, same way Crawford was handled except he was giving the gate and now he's made a name for himself. Niemi can be elite, but was he elite in the playoffs this year? I would say he was very good. Could Leighton have been that good? Its a never ending argument, but in the end I agree we can't spend to much on goaltending, not with the so called "core" here, and us needing depth which will be the reason whether we win again or not IMO.

Re: Niemi makes me say "NO!"
Leighton was not good in the scf, including giving up 2 soft goals in game 6. Every gm in the league was watching that, and thus nobody was calling Leighton's agent with offers. So he resigned with Philly. Niemi on the other hand was the better goalie, and the winning goalie. So offers are much more likely to be coming his way. We'll see what he does. But not the huge offers one might expect. GM's may finally be wary of offering a goalie a huge deal based on one good season or playoff run. Got to prove it over time. Which is why Nabby and Turco will get more $$ than Leighton and Niemi, but not as much as they would in the past.

-5Minutes
How could teams be calling Leighton's agent with offers seeing as free agency hasn't even started yet? He probably signed knowing that it may be his best chance to get back to the SCF. That and the fact that he has basically been an afterthought at goal for as long as he has been in the league and he figured take what he could get now before the other FA goalies started sniffing around Philly.
