Re: Niemi makes me say "NO!"
The signings of Nittymaki (2 million) and Leighton (1.55 million) is the best benchmark Niemi has to gauge what he can ask for and hope to get. He's not going to get the big pay day just yet that Zito was filling his head with. 2-2.5m would be just about right for him. Really hope he resigns as he's just going to get better and better and I don't want it to be on another team.

By the way when can we expect to hear what's happening with Huet contract. Really thought it would be off the books by today as nobody will take that contract on.
Wasn't Zito's Ruutu's agent? Remember those RFA contract battles??

Andy Strickland reported Huet's money wouldn't be off the books until the start of the season.

Doesnt matter. From July 1st to the start of the season there is a 10% kicker. Meaning the Cap is at 69.6 mil right now. Or for the Hawks 65.6 mil. They must be back under 59.6 mil the start of the season.

That explains it then.

He sure was. That was a seriously drawn out affair with all his little sound bites.

So now it is up to an arbitrator, and take it or leave it. Wonder what the difference in what the team offered and he is asking is??

Halak signed for $15M for 4 years (avg. 3.75M). That seems a little steep, esp. with the other recent goalie signings. Wonder how this will figure in for Niemi negotiations/arbitration.

Agreed. Halak's 4-year deal breaks down as: $2.75 Y1, $3.5 Y2, 4.25 Y3, 4.50 Y4

Re: Niemi makes me say "NO!" (arbitration confirmed)

Well looks like Halak's deal is going to pay off for the Hawks... I pulled the following from HFBoards:

Halak

21 = 10-6 2.89 GAA / .906 sv pct 2 SO

22 = 2-1-1 2.11 GAA / .934 sv pct 1 SO

23 = 18-14-1 2.86 GAA / .915 sv pct 1 SO

24 = 26-13-6 2.40 GAA / .924 sv pct 5 SO ( 9-9 2.55 GAA / ,923 sv pct 0 SO)

Niemi

25 = 1-1-1 3.40 GAA / .864 sv pct 0 SO

26 = 26-7-6 2.25 GAA / .912 sv pct 7 SO ( 16-5 2.63 GAA / .910 sv pct 2 SO)

Ok so after comparing them

Niemi will be lucky to get half of what Halak got givne Halak's experience , youth and 2010 playoff compared to Niemi's.

I think he is going to get more than half of 3.75mil/yr however.

Honestly I'd let him go if he wants that much.

I don't see how it could happen. Stanley Cup aside, Halak has a much, much bigger body of work and resume.

Not much. He barely has 100 games in the NHL as well and that's including playoff games.

Neither should make over 2.5 mil. St. Louis SUCKS!~

I'm going to guess you still will. They will compare Niemi to Mason, Ellis and the others that went for under 2 mil as well.

Halak = 101 NHL games. Yup that qualifies him for 3 mil plus per year. Yup, sure does.

He played out of his head in the playoffs UP UNTIL THE POINT THEY GOT THE FLYERS. THEN he was yanked TWICE for the back up goalie. Yup he deserves it.
