I hate waiting for stuff to happen in the off season.

Is Havi going to the Jets?

Are Campoli, Frolik, Brouwer, Stalberg getting re-signed?

Who the **** are they going to draft?

Which UFAs will they sign?

I hate the off season!

Drop the damn puck already!!!!!!!

I'd say it's about 95% chance that Haviland is coaching Winnipeg next year. Wouldn't mind the hawks seeing if Torchetti wants to come back as he wont be moving to Winnipeg.

There's not a Hawks-centric draft thread, so this goes here. According to Jesse Rogers:

"stan says this yr its best players more than positional needs in draft.."

Moar:

"said Pirri closest center of the prospects to playing but Kruger def ahead of him for sure..."

Now you watch your mouth there son.

Well Gabborick would actually have to be healthy and on the ice for that to really happen.

I'm in the Pez camp here. Sharp is the 2nd leader on this team. No doubt. Need to keep him.

the fact his agent border line admitted to tampering is quite disturbing. I wonder how much that actually happens. I'd bet with all the scum bags out there quite a bit.

No way I'd trade Sharp just to get Dubinsky

He's a RFA...and had contract problems with Sather last time. I think they're going to go after Richards (he and Torts are BFF's)....meaning, since they're not going to be able to buyout Drury (with his injury)...Stepan is a center, they could probabaly keep Prospal on the cheap (1yr-1.5mil...coming off an injury and his age)...Dubinsky may be a trade target.

Maybe they'd take prospects/picks to get him? Or I'd be ok with giving up Hjarlmmarsson for him. They only have 3 Dmen under contract as well.

I'd rather take him at 2.5-3mil than sign Laich

Stan's presser:

#Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman: "There are going to be changes. We're not going to bring everybody back."

adamjahns Adam Jahns

Bowman isn't close to signing the #Blackhawks RFA's. And said the cap "will be in the range" of 64 million, as reported.

adamjahns Adam Jahns

Bowman is really making it sound like he can be active in free agency, especially with the increased cap room. #Blackhawks

#Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman said team had not spoken to Jaromir Jagr or his agent.

Bowman said #Blackhawks are in a waiting period to see what happens with Haviland in Winnipeg, before looking for a possible replacements.

TimSassone Tim Sassone

#Blackhawks Bowman said he is not focusing on one particular position in draft, likes centers in the system Pirri, Kruger, Kevin Hayes.

No update on #Blackhawks restricted free agents: "We'll focus on that come next week," Bowman said. Keys are Frolik, Brouwer and Campoli.

TimSassone Tim Sassone

Bowman said Salak will be #Blackhawks backup GT: "We don't need him to come in and be a No. 1 goalie, just solid complementary to Corey."

TimSassone Tim Sassone

The money Frolik, Brouwer, Campoli and even Stalberg want will determine if they return. Mite not be enough for all. Frolik mite be tricky.

GM Bowman: Blackhawks 'not as stuck' as last offseason

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...uck-as-last-offseason-20110622,0,645941.story

Recent reports that the NHL's salary cap will be increased by $5 million to around $64 million for the 2011-12 season has Chicago Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman in a different mindset this offseason.

"We should know the definitive (cap) number very soon (but) it’s going to be in that range," Bowman said Wednesday. "It's certainly going up from where it was ($59.4 million). We’re not in the salary-cap crunch that we were in. We’re able to obviously do some different things and we’re not as stuck as we were a year ago."

The summer following the Hawks' Stanley Cup championship in 2010 was marked by the departures of 10 players from that that title-winning team as Bowman battled the salary cap. But things are different this time around.

"It’s a nice change, to be honest," said Bowman, who is in Minnesota for this weekend's NHL Draft. "We’re not trying to deal players to get to the cap. We have room to add players. Having that additional flexibility is going to help us not only in the summer but during the season when there may be opportunities to pick up players. But you have to have cap space to do that.

"We’re certainly going to approach the offseason with that optimism and excitement that we can bring in some new players. Once we find out where we’re at and get our (restricted free agents) signed we’ll know exactly where we're at."

Several key members of the Hawks are RFA's, including forwards Troy Brouwer, Michael Frolik, Viktor Stalberg and defenseman Chris Campoli.

"We are going to focus on that come next week," Bowman said of free agents. "At this point, we’re focusing on the draft. We work all year to try to have a good draft and be prepared and ready to go. We may speak to agents over the next few days but in terms of in-depth negotiations, I don’t expect to do that. There's enough time. These guys don’t really have to be signed by any specific date. We’ll get to them in short order."

Bowman said some decisions on who will return have been made, but wouldn't reveal them Wednesday.

So... If i'm reading and understanding correctly... we have 15 players signed with about 12 mil in cap room for 6-7 more players? That seems very doable? That should give us some serious options depending on the resignings correct?

Here's what I like about Scooter

He's not going to overpay his RFA's. He has his budget/plan...and if these guys or their agents are going to want big money...see ya.

I like Frolik and want him to stay. But he made 1.275mil last year while only scoring 11g in 80gms (or 13 in 87 if you count playoffs). If he's wanting 2mil plus based on that...sit back and wait for his offer sheet.

I think to "qualify" him, they'd have to offer him 100% of his 1.275mil salary or 1.625mil - which would be more than fair, IMO.

Same with Campoli...I liked how he played in the CHI system, but he's only been a 15-20 point guy and has never ended a season a "plus" player. His last contract was the 1yr-1.4mil (after making 675K in the last year of his entry level contract). I don't see what he's done to get much more than that.

I think these guys have a priveledge and luxury playing with some of these skilled players and in front of a full house, in Chicago. If they want to squeeze out and addition 500-750K...when essentially, they're not "core" players - they're role players here....then see ya later.

Stan and company has addressed their core - and has publically said he wants Sharp to stay and I think he's going to get that done this next year.

But these RFA's better check themselves before they wreck themselves. They have a good opportunity here.

Wouldn't Frolik's QO be lower since that $1.2M included his ELC bonuses. His base salary was the usual $850k. The QO don't include the bonuses do they?

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that Stalberg is not back next year, but my gut says he will be. If they have soem great foresight into him then i'll galdly eat crow, but with some of them management high on him I'm wondering if someone has been spiking their meals with fly agaric.

The best part of that article was "We have no interest in Jagr".

On the draft:

I won't say take him at #18, but I wouldn't mind seeing Joe Morrow drafted by us if he slips to the 2nd round--might be good in the D-man pipeline.

Stan better choose JT MILLER at #!8 or HF50 will flip OUT, yuo see HAWKS marketing could use him and TOEWS as the JT1 and JT2.

This is a player that can mostly be found in the second round on most lists. HF50 never change.

Uptown baby!
Well come we dump Kitchen at least. Wasn't impressed with him at all last year.

KItchen sucks ass. . .at least Assistant coaching the Hawks. Frankly, his performance here has me terrified thinking of the next guy Q is gonna bring in at his discretion. {{shivers}}

I can't see why you still torture yourself reading that guy. It's cruel and unusual punishment.

My idea of HF50

Miller's stock has risen quite a bit actually, not defending HF50 at all but Miller will be a first round pick, probably somewhere in the 20-30 range.

Reading HF50 posts is like watching a carcrash, it's awful but somehow you can't look away. And by reading I mean skimming them, they are impossible to properly read. I think he must be certifiably insane or have some sort of mental problems, maybe Asperger's or some other form of high-functioning autism.
