so if you have 14.4 left with 15 players locked up and give Richards 5, you'll have 9 left. Factor in the 1.5-2 raise Sharp will get and you are down to 7 to sign 6 players. Doesn't leave much to fill in the depth on the lower lines, where I think the biggest difference was last year.

Risky.

If the hawks get Richards they are 2012 stanley cup champs.

I really want them to get that dirty **** but I doubt they will....

I am sure the Hawks will kick the tires of Richards, but doubt they are willing to commit to whatever his demands are. I am sure he'll look for a long-term and pricey contract, something the Hawks just managed to shed. Richards signing a cheapish 1-year deal for a chance to win another Cup would be optimal, but that couldn't happen, could it?

A priority would be to get the RFA's signed and add some quality bottom six role players along with some grit on the blueline.

Here's what I came up with if Richards got $6 milion.

Granted, I don't know if Kopecky/Frolik/Campoli numbers are going to be close to accurate and I also think it leaves us thin on defense with this lineup, but it's just a sample of possibilities

So he'd fit but you are putting three rookies right into the line up off the bat. Kruger, Morin and Smith.

Also there is not much wiggle room what so ever with out 100k left. It's risky.

It would give the Hawks a SCARY offensive team though. Should be a fun next month or so either way.

If the Hawks got Brad Richards, they would instantly be the favorite for the Cup. I know the Bleacher Report already has them as the favorite... but with the lack of depth at C, I'm not so sure.

How fucking fast the tides can turn in one year... last year they barely made the playoffs, this year they could be the favorite for the Cup with all of the cash they have to spend.

I still think they should go grab Gilroy for the blue line and pick up a veteran center.

Can you imagine something like:

Toews

Richards

Bolland

Drury/Madden

Drury is broken and Madden is old. Surely the Hawks could acquire a little better 4th liners.

I want Morin and Smith to play anyway. If we had Toews, Richards, and Bolland as our top 3 wow. Smith and Morin both showed some stuff last season. Maybe someone like Marakov could get a shot.

Yeah, we'd essentially be where were last year with regards to cap space and it's not a comfortable place to be. One injury away from being a mediocre/bad team. I'd rather have depth than sign Richards. Unless we got him closer to 5 million, which is not going to happen.

I honestly think Laich is the most likely candidate to go after for center.

Other possible candidates for forwards Eric Cole, Leino, Langenbrunner at the right price.

And for defense some possibilities, Sopel, O'brien, Wisniewski (I think he'll be asking too much), Vandermeer.

Ladd is a RFA so he would be a long shot but I'd love to have him back.

No Wiz. He wore out his welcome with that nasty shot at Seabrook. He has turned into a nasty thug. And there is a reason none of these other teams want to keep him. He is now more suited to wear a Canucks uniform.

I would love to see Burrish back.

Burish is under contract isn't he?

As for Wiz and Seabrook, they've made amens Bri, you can too. Seabrook would welcome him with open arms. Trust me.

RK, that's what I was thinking with the Richards contract. If we take him, it's great for the top lines of the offense, but then we are right back where we started in terms of filling those bottom 6 with better than 500k players.

While I'm not a fan of John Scott, I'm wondering if we'd be better off on D playing with him during the year, then look for a rental tough d-man at the trade deadline ...giving us that sandpaper when we really need it...and giving more flex for the forwards during the year.

I don't think I'd want to commit the years that Richards wants.

For a bottom 6 centre, I don't know how Reasoner did last year...seemed quiet (but he did play for Floida), but he's a pretty good faceoff winner if my memory served me.

RK...someone hurt her babyboy, she wont forgive. I am not a fan of bringing back retreads, but Wiz or Sope's are two of the few I would.

Pmx I have named some guys that are older that i wouldn't mind seeing Stan pick-up, but DAMN, Eddy J??? Isn't he like 103 or something?????

And I may be one of the few here, but I dont care what he could possibly bring offensively to this team, Brad Richards is a prima donna little ***** and I DO NOT want to see him in the Indianhead.

I agree with you about the puke, but he could help the Hawks win the Cup again.

Stu, you can say that about anyone though, even those kids that got drafted this weekend. My level of hatred and disdain for that bozo (sorry I used your name in vain Bozo) is at the same level that Bri has for Hossa...probably more so.

Sure Stu, but we've had enough contract issues. Our core is signed and realistically had they started the playoffs this year "healthy", they may just have won the Cup back to back. Vancouver BARELY got by a team just decimated with injury and missing two Centers right off the bat.

I'd rather use the money for depth. If that means bringing in two Centers, 2nd and 4th line so be it. But just don't blow the wad on one player.

Besides Richards is in no way taking a 2.5 Mil pay cut. And realistically, that's what it would take.

Bri I love Seabrook just as much as you, but realize shit happens in the heat of the moment. If Wiz repeatedly did shit like that such as a player like Cooke, then I could understand the hate. You won't find another fan that likes Seabrook more than me. He's my boy.
